and wow... there's no way Goodell didn't see this. 2 game suspension? wow. that video is even uglier then I could have imagined.

is this ugly enough to make Goodell step down? I mean, his response and suspension is UNBELIEVABLY UGLY in the wake of this video.

He should be fired if he had seen that.

Also, is TMZ the best news organization in the country today?

I doubt that he can after already handing out punishment. I suspect DeMaurice Smith would have him and the NFL in court in record time. The NFL got it wrong and probably has to live with it. Unless it turns out that Rice lied about his actions, there probably isn't much Roger can do.

This is new information and in essence the NFL is a private corporation so the criminal or civil standard doesn't have to be met. I doubt there is any double jeopardy protection here. It's like firing with cause after someone has been suspended because you have determined there was more to the story.

If the old standard in the NFL/corporation mandates a 2 game max punishment for domestic violence that is where the problem might sit. It wouldn't matter if they saw this if the rule only allows for the 2 games. The NFL is in a very difficult position. I believe they hadn't seen this before the sentence was handed down because the NFL execs are all lawyers and would never come out and publicly lie in such a definitive statement if the police could discredit them.

This is outrageous footage that really lets you in on what happens behind closed doors. He appears unfazed by his actions and appears to have zero empathy. Its hard to tell what the onlookers knew or thought but it was a very long time before anyone reached out to help her. It's kind of a metaphor for women in this situation. People don't seem to rush to the defense of battered women for some reason. Maybe this will be the catalyst to some cultural change in dealing with the issue.

The NFL has to find a way to increase Rice's punishment. This is a public relations disaster and a serious hit to the NFL's reputation IMO. What were they thinking? Instead of talking about opening weekend, the mainstream media is focused on this video. NOT GOOD!

The fact that it's new information might be relevant but I wasn't talking about the legal system.

If the NFL can't legally do anything then the Ravens should! But it all comes down to winning and the Ravens offense looked terrible. So I doubt anything will happen unless the Ravens fans step up and pressure the team. I doubt that will happen either.

Does the new video really change anything? We already knew he knocked her out. Does seeing it make this cowardly act worse for us? Paraphrasing a Jodi Jackson tweet.

On the other hand, you could see her antagonizing him when she was walking to the elevator and still on his case in the elevator. No it is never right to hit a woman or anyone for that matter who is only taunting you with words. But most people do have a breaking point. She obviously knows what his is now.

I think it makes it more real and the initial 2 game suspension look like that much more of a joke. There were still a few people defending Rice. With this video it's impossible to make any more excuses.

Major black eye for the NFL now. Godell really screwed up on this one.

The video pretty much wipes out all the extraneous stuff that surfaced about this incident. The mitigating circumstances just got unmitigated.

Apparently an anonymous teammate stated that Rice doesn't have very much support now at all after this video surfaced. It's pretty much gone. What a POS

I don't understand the instant uproar. What did you guys think it would look like? Did you think he flicked her and she went entirely unconscious? That's what it looks like when someone punches a woman in the face.

He told his team that he was defending himself.

Well that video showed that he was still on the offense.

Yes! It pours napalm on the PR fire that was already burning but fairly well contained within the NFL. People who could care less about football or didn't really catch any imagery when the story first broke will see this and be outraged about the two game suspension. It reflects poorly on the brand regardless of the improved policy. Many will see this and question the appropriateness of even a six game ban. The court of public opinion can be way more costly than a civil court loss.

Goodell has to admit he screwed up and suspend him for the year - or better yet, the Cravens need to cut his ass. If not, this incident will be yet another nail in the NFL coffin.

Ok. I am just trying to clarify what I am seeing.

At the 7-8 second mark he either yells or spits at her
She responds by taking a poke at his chin. Can't tell if it connects
In the elevator at about the 25 second mark, it looks like he hits or pushes her. Its hard to tell exactly because he does it with his left hand, but her body reaction indicates a push or punch.
She starts moving toward him, likely yelling and he punches her, again with his left hand.
She hits her head on the rail going down to the floor. She is not just knocked loopy but out cold.
He tries to drag her out of the elevator and pokes her with his foot as if to try to get her up.
Wow.

Wow. Forget suspension...how does he not go to jail for something like this?

Cause she married him and did not want to press charges or testify, I think. Not that that should matter, the evidence was pretty damning.

With the mob
This sums it up well, from ESPN: If the Ravens hadn't seen the video before, they woke Monday morning to see one of their employees striking a woman unconscious. How many businesses would allow that person to continue working for them?

I know part of what got him the light suspension was her testimony basically saying it was her fault, that she antagonized him to the point that he had to act. Well, this video proves that is b.s.

I also know that because of the player's union Goodell's hands might be tied as well as the Ravens. The one man whose hands are not tied is John Harbaughs. We'll see shortly how much honor and integrity that man has. I know if I was the head coach, Ray Rice would be a game day inactive for a very long time.
