They raise tuition every year so they can upgrade the stadium for the eternally POS football team.

Looks cool, but the roof means no more grass.

Why have a roof at all? All the home games are played at night these days, and no way anyone wants to be tailgating in the mid day sun at the beginning of the year.

It'll be interesting to see what material the roof is made, and how it will work. Would much rather have the top down at night.

Tailgate for the night games generally starts around 3PM which is the hottest part of the day.

I think the new television deal will require them to have afternoon games.

True, but in the fall, by 6 or so, it's fine. 1-3 pm game, full sun for tailgate, full sun for game is the worst. Like it or not, looks like afternoon games are on the way.

New TV contract will stipulate more day games. The drawings are far from final per the presser this morning.

EDIT: So there is going to be a bond/tax district? Arizona is getting theirs done with TV money and private donations. I thought ASU was a football school?

It looks to me to be a permanently placed, light weight fabric top stretched over a light metal frame, (nothing like the heavy roof structure at the Nest).
Since the walls are not enclosed, there will be no refrigeration A-C. Best you can hope for is either some kind of misting system, or some huge cooling towers which will allow cool/moist air to be pumped in like a swamp cooler.

I think you're right, it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Looks like they have the University of Arizona A on the structure to the immediate right of the stadium in the first picture. :D
