Why? He's one of those guys better off in college.

rumors are flying around left and right

30 minutes ago it was they were talking to leslie frazier of MN (could be a rooney rule request) and frazier has apparently declined

another one is that they will hire DeCosta as their GM and he will then bring in Billick (who has been rumored to be assembling a staff)

Pending on how the games go this weekend I think there will be a lot of activity out of the PNW next week.

I'd be shocked if they actually did bring in carroll (and I would be against the move)

Were this to happen I'm going to be calling a bunch of So Cal friends and relatives to ask them to step away from the edge.

He is the holy master of that cult.

Weird that Carroll would want to leave USC. He has it made there and doesn't have to look over his shoulder all the time. I think going to the pros at this point in his career would be for ego purposes.

Ego would definitely factor in - plus slowly and slowly USC is becoming less untouchable (or a little more sloppy) in their arrangements with players

Maybe he could be nervous that the NCAA may begin asking too many questions

That's another valid point. I do believe that he will do better this time around, but I don't see him as a top tier NFL coach. It seems that he runs too loose of a ship and is not strict enough. I could be wrong, but that's my 2 cents.

Can't see Pete Carroll taking that job. All downside, no up. He's pretty well set right now with the best coaching gig in the NCAA and he's even getting paid nicely too. Why would he want to throw everything in the trash and go to an impatient NFL team? And besides, he was not that great of an NFL coach the first time around.

Geez, they didn't give Mora much of a chance, heck they did improve their record from the previous season.

I would rather they hire Pete Carroll than Brian Billick. I am reading, Next Man Up, and he sounds like a guy who is organized and effective at coaching professional football.

They dont even have a GM yet, so how can they start firing coaches, start looking for or rumored to be looking for new coaches?

Doesnt the horse belong in front of the cart not behind it?

No it's call fleeing the sinking ship. The LA Times discovered yesterday that the same guy who bought the SUV McKnight has been driving bought a Miata with the license plates "OJMAYO" 2 years ago and paid to register the domain names ojaymayo.com and USCmarketing.com. When confronted he claimed it stood for US-China marketing and had nothing to do with USC and declined to comment on the Mayo connection.

USC is now caught dead to rights, they can't claim the guy(Schenter) was unknown to them and just connected to McKnight via Joe's girlfriend because they can now be tied to Schenter 2 years earlier with another USC athlete, Mayo. That means SChenter will be determined to be a USC booster(they had been claiming prior he was a UW booster) and as such his interactions with McKNight will be a violation and the whole thing spells textbook definition of Lack of Institutional Control.

Carroll is supposedly trying to convince OC Jeremy Bates to join him in Seattle, he's fleeing the sinking ship.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that Pete has mutual interest and things are moving fast in putting this together.

Yep and guess who just declared for the NFL draft... Joe McKnight. Which pretty much proves that USC knew they were in trouble and that's why they held him out of the bowl game and why he's turning pro.

I'd be VERY surprised if Carroll isn't in the NFL next year now.

It doesn't seem right that a school program and it's athletes suffer but the head coach gets off free...

Yeah but what REALLY is unfair to me is that OJ Mayo, Reggie Bush and Joe McKnight will be making millions while the athletes at USC suffer for their sins.

There's just nothing that can be done the NCAA can't touch players once they leave and they can't stop a coach from taking an NFL or NBA job.

There's no incentive for Tim Floyd or Pete Carroll to play by the rules.

Violations catching up + Paul Allen throwing money at him = done deal IMO.

He's selling high on his stock right now, wisely in my opinion.

Win win situation for me and any other PAC 10 fan that doesnt care much for USC

He was a very average coach in the NFL when he coached the Patriots.

But he is an amazing college coach and recruiter.

Success hardly ever transfers from college to the pros. Ask Dennis Erickson.

But by all means; bring him to Seattle. It only helps the Cardinals, and my Wildcats :)

Mike Garrett has been taking flack for this from the LA times for a while now. Here's a link to a recent article about Garrett.

USC shouldn't be letting Mike Garrett run an end-around

LOL

Jim Mora Jr.

He deserved it, the guys just doesn't have what it takes to lead an NFL football team.

Now all they gotta do is get rid of Hasselbeck, and LeRoy Hill, and I might dispise them a little bit less........just a little.

:D
