Contrary to a previous report by an Indianapolis radio station, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports there are no further procedures planned for Peyton Manning "now."

Radio host John Michael Vincent admitted he would be "torched" if his report didn't stand up, and that looks to be the case. Mort does say that Manning is being re-evaluated by several doctors because of his slow progress in recovering from May neck surgery. While he may not be out "indefinitely," the odds still appear to be long that Manning will start the season opener.

mortreport Chris Mortensen No 2nd surgery/procedure for Manning is planned, as of now. He's getting multiple opinions still waiting for answers on slow progress. 4 Sep
Mort isn't exactly shooting down the report. No surgery planned as of now is a lot different than no surgery is needed.

I hope he doesn't need another procedure. Peyton is one of the most exciting players to watch in the NFL. But I wouldn't be surprised if the team doctor suggested surgery, and Peyton is now searching for other treatment options. Just speculation on my part.

The NFC West is officially not the worst division in the NFL.

Lets be honest here the neck is not like a knee. Payton is around 35 or so. He has won a super bowl and a sure hall or famer. He walks away and has a lot of years ahead of him. Is is worth being a quadraplegic for another year? That is why Kurt walked away as he wants a normal life. The Colts would be better to suck and get in the Andrew Luck derby

Yeah I got him in my 3 qb starting leauge. Both of them lol.

Well at least my other qb's are Kolb in one and Cutler in the other.

Hopefully he's back by midseason or something. Either way if he's good by week 15 or 16, I'll be fine with picking him.

Love Peyton. But he's got to take care of numero uno. If he doesn't play, the season just got a whole lot duller.

Sooo... Three pages and no jokes about you would need neck surgery too if you were holding up that big ol' head of his? It's my humble opinion that you guys are slipping.

Texans finally get their opportunity. Ive always liked Houston, good luck to them.

Too bad for Peyton but this is good for the Colts (and fans). The elite teams need a taste of losing everyonce in awhile. Will test their fanship. Bet if they go 0-3 that arena will get alot more spacious.

Well it might be more of a comfort issue going forward than an injury where he risks becoming paralyzed.

Obviously I'm not a doctor, but the same can be said about many procedures with one's knees or shoulders, elbows, etc.

But I don't know all the specifics obviously. Just saying.

If it's like this, then we'll see how much Peyton loves football. I actually think he'll want to come back, because it seems like he's a football player through and through. But when???

Per ESPN radio's John Michael Vincent.

Tough break for Peyton. Probably a tougher break for the Colts.

Many years ago I had a bone graft from my hip placed into my neck at the C3/C4 and C4/C5. A guy would have some sort of death wish to try and play in the NFL unless he waited at least two years. Over time the bone will grow in place and be as strong or even stronger but that does not happen in one year.

I do not know exactly what kind of procedure Peyton had. iI can be as simple as a bulging disc to degenerative disc disease but none are good. My surgery was done from the front where they moved aside my throat and worked from the back of the spine. 4.5 hours of a scary type of operation. In my case it was an immediate 100% cure. You do lose a slight amount of upward motion in your neck. Even today many years later X-Rays show a solid piece of bone in this area that looks as solid as a rock. If I were Peyton with all his money I would move up to the press box rather than risk being paralyzed. If he did in fact have a fusion of any sorts.

You'd think he'd have a bad back from carrying that team for 13 years.
good job!
