They need to stop kids opting out of doing the combine. It's getting more and more each year, especially the top picks.

If you enter the draft the combine should be compulsory unless signed off injured by a doctor.

Unlike at a cattle show.

This livestock has a choice.

Um why? Because YOU want to know more about them? If it doesn't make sense for the player to participate, they shouldn't.

Make sense why? What doesn't make sense?

Players hardly ever used to opt out. Now you have agents telling them not to test and to wait until their pro day as they are more likely to get favorable results.

The combine is a level playing field. You can't trust hand timed pro days.

Cattle! lol

I wish I could have the opportunity to earn millions of dollar guaranteed even though I might not be up to scratch, and all I have to do to earn it is show the teams that are going to pay me millions what I can do in a controlled environment.

Then why do scouts and other team personnel use personal timers from the stands at the Combine?

Well, if the elite prospects needed the Combine to show off their talents, they would.

Not at all. QBs with small hands fumble more often.
I can't count the number of times pros freak out over hand size of a prospect; I can't recall any QB in recent memory having a huge issue with fumbles because of hand size. For the most part this, like many of the stats and measurements, are meaningless.

The number of fumbles in college, now, are a different story. I'd still want Pickett in the 1st if we were in need of a QB, but it would raise question marks. One reason I feel comfortable with him is he's a kid that put it all together this past year after being a several-year starter. He's exceeded so many of my expectations. I'd ask how many fumbles he has had THIS season.

For those of you who don’t know the Combine was initially a number of regional gatherings. In fact Dave Te (who I’ve mentioned a few times on the board) was one of the guys responsible for its start. Especially early on there were complaints about the running surface and oddly the footballs. I think most of it was user headspace. Anyway that‘s how the Pro Days started as, particularly for speed measures, runners preferred their home tracks. Eventually some just felt it was silly to do both and somewhat risky.

A player gets hurt during the drill, dropping their draft status?

They are already a consensus #1 pick, and drill could only hurt them?

There are plenty of reasons why someone would want to skip a combine/drill.

Stout, have you seen him play? I really haven't paid much attention to Pitt football. I've seen only highlights.

Pickett fumbled 26 times in 52 games in college. That's .5 fumbles per game.
NFL 2021
Dak Prescott 10-7/8" hands fumbled 14 times, that's .875 fumbles per game.
Joe Burrows 9" hands fumbled 5 times, that's .312 fumbles per game.

Both the above played in 16 games in 2021.

Hand measurement is overrated, it's how you protect the ball that matters.
