Make it happen.

We should start a petition. Coaches should wear suits on the sideline.

That and teams should offer a buy back for old jerseys.

I think those are two things that "the fans" would like.

Agreed on the suits for coaches. You should dress for the occasion and game day is important! Honestly - I don't really care that much, but there has to be some standards. Belicheck in that cutoff hoodie looks like a hobo in need of a baloney sandwich....

As for the old jersey buy back plan - I'm not sure I follow you Rugby. Are you saying that the team should give me some money for my Simeon Rice jersey??

Nolan tried it a few years back with the 9ers. Announcers made mention of it in broadcasts but it didn't catch on....most reactions were like, ok whatever

As an Arizona grad, I'm wondering if this were implemented in college, what the over under would be on Mike Stoops taking off his jacket and throwing it on the ground in a fit of rage? 2nd play of the season?

Money issue. IIRC, the merchandising contract requires "official apparel" to be worn on the sidelines.

Nolan had to get a special exemption from the NFL and from Reebok.

Or the 'ol ball coach throwing his fedora instead of a visor

100% agreed.

If the need for merchandizing is needed, then create the damn market, but instill a LITTLE culture into the sport.

Man in the suit = Man in charge

I always thought that was players only?

You don't wear suits for a sports that is predominantly played outside. I can't think of a single outside sport that has coaches wearing suits. And there is nothing professional about football its a game for crying outloud, I don't try to class it up when I go bowling or lay monopoly.

How about the NFL follow MLB's lead and have the coach/manager wear the team uniform? Would have loved to see Denny Green on the sidelines wearing a uniform with a big "00" on the front! :)

It doesn't take a suit to know who's in charge. The players know.

Was my favorite thing about Mike Nolan. Not everyone could pull it off that well though. And it would never fly with Sweats Bellicheck

I could care less what they wear. I know that if I were a coach out there I'd want to dress as comfortably as possible. The last thing I'd want to worry about is whether my tie is straight - I'd prefer to focus on winning the game. And as a fan, I'm watching the guys play football and fashion never crosses my mind.

Screw that!!! Have you ever coached in a suit?? I have (and sadly will still have to wear a shirt and tie for one of my new teams) and let me tell you.... IT SUCKS!!!! The suit is bad, but the dress shoes make it just awful. It looks better yes, but I watch most games in pajama pants and a jersey from the comfort of my couch. Everyone should feel good when watching football IMO :)
