I agree - it is not like they're gonna go up there and throw a slider. I mean geez

Some people should not wear uniforms - like Zimmer in NY - the horror!

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Hmmmmmmmm, never thought about that before. Do they have their own number too?

They sure do. Brenly's number is 15.

I will take a guess. There was probably a time when the managers were also players so they had to be in uniform to play and like alot of traditions, it just carried forward. I guess the question for you would be, if not uniforms, what do you think they should wear? Armani's like hoops (which is equally ridiculous)? A pair of sweats and team gear? Jeans and a Metallica Tshirt?

Old days many managers were player managers, so suppose the "tradition" just continued...

Notable exception: Connie Mack

Do you think they were cleats? Now that would be really dumb.

I can understand the uniforms for the sake of team unity and in some caes, like the thirdbase coach, he would funny in anything else.

Just thank god that basketball coaches don't wear uniforms....can you imagine George Karl or Don Nelson in a tank top uniform?

That would be hilarious.

They have been player coaches in the NBA before I think.

I think it is because only people in uniform are allowed on the field of play. Connie Mack would always send one of his coaches out, he stayed in the dugout himself.
