I think Nidan is right on this one. Johnson CAN get a bigger contract than Pace, with more guaranteed money - but it would take a 6 or 7 year contract. That is what Johnson's agent is po'd about - but tough - he tried to hardball the Cardinals, and got the Bird.

I agree it was a bigger need to get Pace into camp, but you do not let your top WR go for nothing then trade down for two picks in the first round then dig yourself into a corner and not be able to sign one of the first round picks. No wonder we are the Cardinals.

I still have hope for the season but this is typical.

Finally time started catching up with them, as it had got to the point that proven, veteran players were ultimately getting the short end of the stick, because of the over paid rookies and limited budjets of MOST teams.
Several teams "progressive" signing policies mortgaged their future into cap hell with their lack of foresight. ...and of course there are always idiots like Daniel Snyder to increase the idiot pool.

With the exception of your first declaration, what you say is true. I agree. However, how does that excuse the Cardinal organization from continually failing to get their picks (specifically top picks) in on time? Other teams find a way to do it.

Escalators or 2 stage SB seem reasonably likely now, but I suspect the RG will fight on voidables.

Well, Graves can't have his cake and eat it too.

If he's going to hardball them on one issue he needs to be flexible on another. That's what negotiation is all about. If he wants to force the agent into a longer contract, he should be open to voidables. On the flip side, if the agent wants to get the deal done, he'll have to accept the longer contract while getting something in voidables.

Bottom line: If Graves says, 'long contract, no voidables, suck it up', he's wrong. If the agent says, 'shorter contract or no contract', he's wrong.

At least that's my opinion. At the moment. With the facts we currently have.

That's better Beef-

We are WAY ahead of schedule for first rounders.

We're not going to let our #1 pick swing from a tree in Tempe.

IF...IF he comes in quite late, we had a better chance to see what the other guys can do, we need to cut some recievers. There is no way we'd cut our #1 pick right? Recievers take time to develop regardless.

If he gets in soon, I think we can all agree that this has never happened before. Good thing.

A day or two don't bother me. They fixed he injury waiver issue. They used escalators this year. To me that's progress. If Johnson's agent drg his feet until Pace took the deal, how is that Aizona's fault?

Relax guys there should be limited problems with getting BJ in.

Mostly because his options to get a slooted deal are far less than they were 24 hours ago. This is why his agent is pissed, he has few options now to get the deal done.

The limited options available should make the process easier, once the agent gets over being pissed and being upstaged by Pace's agent.

The voidables issue was purely my comments, maybe Rg will do them.

My point was that he has shown he will do the other options.

Why is everyone saying Johsnons agent drug his feet? None of us know that! I just think Pace's agent and graves came to a deal quicker and took it. I am hoping Graves has a back-up plan, but to lay this problem at the feet of Johnson's agent is riduclous!

Uh, you don't have that quite right. Arizona was NOT offering the same deal to both players. They HAD been, then, to quote the article by Pas, their offer increased significantly-to Pace, that is.

So, Pace didn't take that deal. NEITHER of them would sign the deal, they offered pace MORE, THEN he signed. In essence, they basically told Johnson's agent that Pace is worth more than he is. Stupid. Good that they got one into camp, but stupid.

Nidan, methinks you don't know what you're talking about - but keep writing - I like reading delusionary tales - they're fun to listen to. GRAVES IS THE MAN!:D

Hey one is better than none, and IMO Pace was the more important one at this point. Good for them.

Johnson will get his, but these players and agents should have known better than to hold out this year. There were plenty of warnings that things like this would happen.

A few more of these situations like this, where the agent gets caught with his beans above his frank will make next years negotiations much smoother.

And to dismiss it at Grave's problem is just is bad. We don't know WHAT happened.

Sorry Cheesie, but that post had nothing to do with RG, it was purely stating what I though might be left as options for BJ's agent.

It just seem to me that the agent is pissed that his options have been drasticly reduced and may have to sign a longer term deal than he wanted to get the $$.

Would you disagree with that ?

If there are less options to discuss it seems reasonable to think that the talking might take less time. However that could still be a long time.

Where am I delusional in this ?

Nidan, you're really reading this the wrong way. They were offered the same deal. Neither of them signed. They offered Pace MORE. He signed. So how is it that Johnson was the 'slower horse'? Perhaps if he was offered that SAME deal, the one with EXTRA money, he would have signed?

You're talking about this as if they were offered the same deal. They were not. I'll cut and paste the section that says this:

"Up until Sunday, the Cardinals were on similar negotiating paths with both of their first-round choices, offering each of them guaranteed money of about $4.4 million. But the team's emphasis then shifted to Pace, after team officials reportedly assessed that getting him into camp was more critical, and their offer increased significantly."

Basically, Graves told Johnson's agent that they needed Pace more than him, and cared more about getting Pace in. This was sheer stupidity on the part of Graves. Now if he can't get BJ in on time, he'll have screwed the pooch.

Yeah, but if the other horse was injected was performance enhancer(i.e. MONEY) in the middle of the race - when the NFL has slotted contracts for years that 17 gets more than 18 (HOW BOUT THAT? Gee that seems like it should make sense) - then not all equal. I LOVE ROD GRAVES - I WANT TO TURN INTO A ****** SO I CAN HAVE HIS KIDS! GRAVES IS THE MAN - AND I WANT TO BE HIS - HE IS THE GREATEST IN THE WORLD! GO GET SWEETUMS! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA - we will suck this year.
