The market is not going to be that hot for Fitz. His big contract days are over. He won't have it as good as he has it here.

He would bank at LEAST 10 million garaunteed, probably more like 15. He is showing he still has it, and he would be the top free agent if the Cards and him part ways.

One of the best parts of this fantastic season, to this point, has been Fitz completely buying into Arians and just going for wins. Not bitching about catches or the routes he is now asked to run.

I hope we don't see it, but many teams would love to have Fitz on their team. In fact, I think SF and Seattle would both go after him hard.

From what I can see, this seems like a win-win for both sides. A very pleasant surprise that it got done this fast. Great news to start the football weekend.

Good news. :) It's nice to be to set at quarterback for a few years. :)

I might be the only one here on the board that thinks this , but I truly believe that Larry is going to get the big ring come February . Then it will be interesting to see if he can overcome his pride and stay . Last off-season big contract guys like Revis , and Peppers took paycuts joining their new teams , I'm hoping that Larry takes one and stays a Cardinal .

I believe this also, regarding the first part. Though I will say I had this same sense and feeling regarding the Suns with Barkley that whole year and they ended up losing to Jordan's Bulls. There are similarities in the locker-room talk and especially the confidence level but the Suns really didn't have great coaching and I believe these Cardinals do.

That being said, fans hopes are crushed every year, no matter what they think or feel. Most fans come away disappointed. All fans except one teams hopes are destroyed.

It would be a shame for that to happen to this team IMO, because I think what they have in that locker-room and the way they feel about BA is special and hard to reproduce. Doesn't mean they won't lose though. I still think talent wins games.

Coaching matters though. Way more than I thought it did in today's NFL.

Regarding the 2nd part of your post about Larry, he's so hard to read because he's so politically correct all the time. He played with Adub though and you have to wonder if that had an effect.

I remember an article a few seasons back saying that after practice he and Adub met at midfield and met helmet to helmet and had a long conversation like that after everyone had left.

Fitz has made a lot of money. I have to think moments like that matter. I have to believe a locker room like they have now matters.

I could be wrong obviously, wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last, maybe he just wants to get paid again or catch a lot of balls, and I wouldn't blame him for that.

But I think when he says he just wants to win he means it. And I think he has a better chance here than rolling the dice off season.

Guess I was dumb to think we could get him around 14m a year. Our hands are tied trying to bring back other players or FA's but if the alternative is losing him then there's no complaints.

Seriously, can you ever envision Fitz going to Seattle or SF? I do not.

Fitz bought into BA because he thinks BA can make him a better player. When you get older, moving to the slot can increase your productivity. Fitz can now play every WR position on the field. He has flourished and become a weapon now IMO, instead of just being an outside guy with questionable speed.

You're not dumb, I think this is leverage to get Fitz to stay and take a paycut. So they throw some bones to Palmer to get Fitz to give up major bones to have a QB who can actually throw the ball.

(That throw to Ginn on the sideline last week is sick. Just sick. I don't think people even realize. Up the field 20, across another 10, on a rope, over one player and underneath another, and Ginn is only 5'11, so you gotta drop it on a dime, on 3rd and 15. That's just sick. Right in the mitts)

I don't think he would sign with either team. But, I think both would want him. I remember Pete Carroll gushing about how good Fitz is a football palyer.

I could totally see him going to New England. At this point, he needs a ring to cement his legacy among the greats of the game.

It's possible he could, but I don't see it. He's already a legend here and has just as good a chance here as anywhere to win a ring. Plus I think he wants to play with one team, he seems like that type, and it's so rare.

If he stayed and won a ring here... Helped our hapless Cardinals to get a ring... With his #s... That is LEGEND type stuff. And I mean legendary. He'd go down in history with stats, the SB, and then the background of helping the Cards do it after decades, half a century, of futility.

Do you honestly believe he'd play for the Pats where Billicheat gets all the credit? They didn't even win it with Randy Moss and Brady both in their prime.

Fitz is great but 2015 free agents at WR include Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas, superstar receivers in their prime. That being said I am sure he would garner interest. Arguably the third best, I think Torrey Smith and Jeremy Maclin have similar value. I don't think Fitz gets 15 million next year, I think 10 million would be tough for the Cards to match.

Actually, the Cardinals making the playoffs and making some noise will go a long way to seeing Fitzgerald taking a pay cut to remain a Cardinal :)

Before the season started,I thought he had about 98% chance of getting cut because of his salary next year.

But, I 've changed my mind based on how this season is going. I think it's more like 50/50 now that he takes a cut and stays. I think both he and Dockett are Cardinals to the core of their being. I'm so impressed with the leadership both have shown this year. Ideally, we finish this season strong and both are back next year ready to kick butt.

This puts a nail in the coffin of the old, slow and cheap Cardinals.
Thank you Michael.

Good signing. Fair price for both and Palmer looks like he can play another three years as well. Solid smart QB. If we can win enough to get home field advantage through the playoffs I think we have a great shot at the Super Bowl.

I like the fact that only 20.5 is guaranteed. It looks like if he gets injured, or goes in the tank, it won't be hard to release him. Of course, I hope he stays healthy, plays at a high level, and earns every penny of the 50 mill.

I think if Larry were to leave he would go to Minnesota.

Disagree. If fitz leaves, he's going to an immediate title contender. Minnesota is not even close to being a competitive team. Seattle, New England, or New Orleans are some possibilities.

I like Ian Rapoport's take on the deal. It benefits both teams. Could Carson have waited and gotten more money after the season? Probably. But it's not about the money with Carson at this stage of his career. He's a guy who basically retired because he got tired of the b.s. in Cincy. Money is NOT the most important thing to him. Being with a team, coach and an offense where he enjoys coming to work are the most important things. He gets a good, but fair to both sides contract. And he leaves the Cardinals with some flexibility with Larry IMO.

Agree, and one can only hope that that sends a message to other people on the team as well.

@mikejurecki: Hearing Carson Palmer was reasonable throughout the negotiations, could've taken longer. He wanted to be here, fair deal for both parties.

IIRC Carson Palmer said something to the effect of "I have all the money I need, I don't have to keep playing" when he "retired" from the Bengals. I think that pissed off the owner a lot.

My point being, I agree with Totally_Red that CP made his decision based on more factors than money. Of course, I don't think he would have signed for anything less either.

I also agree it's a good deal for both, basically a 2 year deal that could be extended to 3 if he's still playing at a high level in 2017.

Kudos to Keim, et al that made this work. He's the absolute best option for the near future for this team IMO.
