It's not about how much cap space a team has, it's about how you use it. The Raiders, Bucs, Jaguars, and Titans all seem to have loads of cap space year after year, and yet these teams are doormats.
Most great teams draft well, not rely upon free agency. How often do teams like the Packers make significant moves in free agency? Rarely.

As long as it is better than Beuerline, Cecil & Clark.......
In another post I stated that Palmer could do the following:
Palmer is signed thru 2018 and has a 9.5M roster bonus due this month.
Switch his Roster Bonus to a Signing bonus and spread to over the remaining 4 yrs.
Cap savings of $7.14M.
Now if Veldheer restructures his contract here is a good way to do that contract.
Switch 5M of is base salary into a signing bonus.
Cap savings of 3.75M.
Campbell's will be a litter harder to figure out so let see what happens.
Roster Bonus to Signing BonusSavings
Done deal according to ESPN.
Jesus could the Palmer trade been anymore of a heist.
Got us a 16-6 QB who cares about team and winning more then anything
Allowed us to keep Fitz
Got us Veldeheer
Giving us room to be players in FA this year
Got us all thinking Super Bowl this year and going forward
For what a 6th round pick? Ok.
Not according to Urban... The deal is done but not enacted unless needed.
I don't get the point of going through the process not to enact it. What's the harm in enacting it?

That's true, but when they do make moves in free agency, they tend to be significant. Charles Woodson and Julius Peppers kind of significant.
I agree with this general premise. I don't think that you should be seeking out saviors or your best players in free agency. I just think that people who are saying the Cards are going to bring in 3-4 stars are going to end up disappointed.
Agree with all of this. You don't cut Dock, let Williams test FA, not tender Ta'amu, and restructure Palmer and Fitz, unless you plan on making a splash in FA.I'm very excited to see what we have planned for free agency. No way this happens if they are not sure of signing some really significant free agents.
If it is true that he's restructured, it should be a fun week or two coming up for us fans.I'm very excited to see what we have planned for free agency. No way this happens if they are not sure of signing some really significant free agents.

it's official now: Carson Palmer did restructure contract. $9.5 roster bonus converted to signing bonus. #azcardinals pick up $7.1 of space
Kent Somers @kentsomers
Downside of Palmer restructure: '16 cap number of $19m, $22.6 in '17, per overthecap.com. will have to be addressed.
Why would we need this cash? A big signing coming? Ehhh..... Ehhh.....

Palmer's $9.5 RB was due to be paid today, so if #azcardinals were going to restructure, had to do it.
Turns out, Palmer wasn’t quite on point, of which he was informed after the fact. Palmer has indeed agreed to a restructure — which likely would include turning an option bonus into signing bonus, clearing about $7 million of cap space — but it has not yet been executed. So the Cardinals still figure to have around $14 million of cap space heading into next week. What it does mean is that the Cardinals and GM Steve Keim have some reserves in their back pocket if the team were to need more cap space during free agency.
