Kerouac9 wrote, “Preston Parson isn’t going to win any beauty contests about taking the snap from under center…..” and Kerouac9 may be right. Its obvious from his fine report on the game that he knows a good deal more about football than I do.

Having said that, I still would suggest that Parsons looked better than McCown and as a minority of one I think he deserves a chance to play half a game with the first stringers. Let’s see what he can do. He threw the two best passes of the evening, and believe it or not he even hit a receiver in stride. I agreed with the two Dallas announcers who said Parsons looked like the best quarterback on the field that evening. Of course that was before he threw the damn interception.

Mcown or Parsons should be sent to Europe after this season. It has been a great environment for players to develop.

McCown should have been given a chance to finish out the last 5 or 6 games last year...The fact that he wasn't allowed to play could hurt the Cards more than anything this year and for seasons to come....

So far in the one preseason game we had parsons looked much better plus he has looked better in camp. I think he deserves #2 right now.

Huh? According to about everyone on this board, McCown looked much better than Parsons in camp.

I didn't see anything that made me think that Parsons is better. In fact his missed opportunity to a wide open McAddley was about the worst screwup of any Cards player. Most high school Qbs could've made that throw.

I believe i read it on one of the camp reports. But during the game you cant deny that parsons was better than McCown.

I really don't agree.

How many points did Parsons lead us to?

None.

And that terrible throw to McAddley was awful, absolutely awful. Frankly I'm wondering what Parsons did that is getting him so much praise. McCown didn't look great, but he looks like he has improved dramatically, while Parsons looks exactly like he did last year.

I saved every camp report posted on this website, and only one or two said anything complimentary about Parsons, and that is shocking considering the fact that everyone was excited about him last training camp.

Skkorp repeatedly said that McCown looked better than Parsons, and Skkorp said McCown wasn't as good as Parsons last year.

Neither of the two looked particularly special the three day I was up there! They both looked lost and couldnt make the basic throws. That includes McCown!

The last practice I was at though Parsons did look better than McCown and was getting waty more reps as well which surprised me quite a bit.

That being said I have little faith in either of them!

The fact Mac is out here saying the Cards may have to dig out a vet QB speaks volumes for the progress of McCown and Parsons. I think we have seen the first crack in support for the two players. This may be simply a motivational ploy but for some reason I don't buy it. I think there is concern.

Bill Lewis made an interesting observation this AM. He stated a 3rd round pick is a guy you hope will pan out in a few years. That is McCown. Blake doesn't have Jake's durability (or youth) so the Cards may be doing some shopping.

The one irritating factor of all this is I believe for any vet backup to be effective, he should have been in camp early on if not from day 1.

Response:

Of course Parsons lead didn't lead us to any points. That MAYBE is because he really hasn't been given a chance. He played only one quarter and that was with the third and fourth unit. It would be nice to see what he could do if he played a full half with some of the better players. Josh has been given far more opportunity and hasn't shown us much of anything. The worst throw of the evening in my estimation was one by Josh that went right into the hands of a defender who just didn't hold on to it.
But admittedly, I am not an expert. I just hope they don't stay with Josh as long as they did with Jake.

 It's not like McCown is being annointed as a savior by anyone...I'm just wondering why all the love for Parsons. He really is a marginal talent. He doesn't have very good athletic ability, lacks a big time arm, and isn't that accurate.

And I'm perplexed why anyone thinks he deserves a chance to play with the first team offense. He has shown very little to warrant that type of attention.

Ask AZCB34, and he will tell you that I've saying that we need a vet backup for Blake, for months. I'm not sold on either McCown or Parsons, but McCown is still a much better prospect.

Maybe Ray Lucas or some other washed up has been ???

Sorry but for two years in a row I have seen Parson throw some darts. The guy IMO from what Ihave seen actually has a cannon for an arm he just has a problem with consistency and touch!

Well we will have to agree to disagree then. That pass intended for McAddley (3-5-ARI32 (11:51 4th quarter) ) has to be the weakest pass I've ever seen to a completely wide open player.

Parsons literally did nothing in the first game. TWO completions altogether, 4 incompletions with an interception. NO scoring drives.

Skkorp mentioned it on this thread: http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14032

I expect high school QBs to make that throw, yet Parsons threw it way short. That play was probably at the least a 50-50 td, or at least that's the way it looked.

Heck, even Jake would've been able to make that throw (and you know how low my opinion of Jake is :D).

bad throw? YES! But by that token I can just say that I have seen more than enough of PArsons to know his arm isnt weak! Thats all Im saying nothing more. Im not one of the ones on here annointing him more PT!

McCown last year was probably as bad as any Cardinals QB I've ever seen. He has made a big step up this year, he still has a LONG ways to go. Parsons seems to not have stepped up his game this year. At least not yet.

I've called for these guys to go to Europe for years now. And, I've also called for a real vet backup for years as well. Since we've had five straight years of the Cardinals ignoring my posts on the issue :) I guess it's not their philosophy to put a major investment into the backup QB spot.

Hey, I'll give it to ya'....you've definitely seen more training camp than I've ever seen. I won't dispute that.

But I just don't understand the premise of this thread. Parsons didn't look impressive, and neither did McCown. But in my mind, McCown shows more of the ability needed to be a starting QB in this league.

Hey Shane...after seeing Emmitt convert that first down, did it make you happy we signed him? I know I got chills from it. :D

I rooted like hell and was happy as could be.

Howevor I wasnt perplexed in anyway that it was Emmitt that did it. All I see is a player in Cardinal Red!

I still dont think he should be starting but hey to each there own! You should see the gorgeous new Marcell Shipp Jersey I bought at Metrocenter on Sunday :)

Are they selling Shipp jerseys? If so, I might have to penny pinch for a month to save some money to buy one! :D

It was at the sports store downstairs not far from the food court called the Sports Cage!

Wanted to buy my son a matching one but they only had Emmitt in kids sizes :(
