Patrick Peterson discloses that he’s diabetic

At the Scouting Combine, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told PFT Live that cornerback Patrick Peterson battled blood sugar issues during the 2014 season, and that Peters had “borderline” diabetes. Peterson has now said that his condition goes beyond any borderline.

Peterson admitted that the situation affected him in 2014.

Peterson, one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, didn’t specify whether he suffers from Type I or Type II diabetes. The diagnosis helps explain the decline in his play from last season, and we wish him the best as he prepares for 2015.

PP just Tweeted this:

I want to take a moment to address the media reports this morning regarding my health. While I did have abnormal sugar levels, I've been working with doctors on a strategic meal plan and workout routine that are reversing these symptoms. I’m grateful that this has been reversible for me and my health is back to normal. Thanks everyone for their concern and well wishes! Now back to my workouts and getting ready for the upcoming season!

I always knew there was something a bit odd about him. I wonder how the other players will relate to him in the locker room now.

we dont know yet if is type 1 or 2.

I am a Type 1/Insulin Dependent/Juvenile Diabetic. Only Type 2 Diabetes can be reversed so I would guesstimate that he is a Type 2.

BTW for anyone interested the best way to prevent Diabetes is to go on the Paleo Diet. Wish I had known about this when I was a kid...I more than likely wouldn't be Diabetic if I had known about it.

For anyone interested I strongly recommend The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolfe. A really good book that will open your eyes to the American diet.

I don't think Type 2 can be reversed. He probably had Pre-Diabetes. That can be reversed.

My buddy was told he was pre-diabetic and he asked hi doctor if he caught it from using his sisters toilet. His doctor was not amused.

Maybe that's what SissyBoyFloyd is getting at? Ain't no one want toilet diabetes!

PP may be pre-diabetic or possibly Type 2 if it had that much effect on him since it was reported as "borderline diabetes".

It is possible he is Type 1 (because he is so young and in great shape). However as Type 1 your pancreas produces very little or no insulin so that would normally not be "borderline". Also Type 1 is usually child onset (but not always).

Type 1 diabetes can be managed, but there is no cure and it cannot be reversed.

Treatment for type 2 diabetes includes monitoring your blood sugar levels and using medications or insulin when needed. However, if you start eating healthier, exercise, and lose weight, you can reduce your symptoms or even reverse the course of the condition.

Even though exercise is highly recommended for diabetes, the amount of exercise a pro athlete like PP gets can make it difficult to balance his blood sugar level.

I just read this PP quote "I've been working with doctors on a strategic meal plan and workout routine that are reversing these symptoms". Looks like Type 2 then.

You don't drive do you? Operative a large movable object that can kill people? Given the points that you decide to state and questions that you ask based on facts I seriously question your judgement.

I believe this is a joke by SissyBoy. He has an odd sense of humor. Once people realize this I think people will understand him more. Maybe not. JMWHO ;)

Funny how doctors don't seem to have a sense of humor when treating their patients. They sure do when patients aren't around or conscious.

I changed doctors once and the first time he was giving me a physical and started putting on the rubber glove while telling me to drop my pants and bend over, I said in a gleeful manner, "Oh boy, my favorite part." He not only gave me a weird look of shock, but the following year said there was no need to check my prostate any longer, with the excuse that the medical profession had decided it was really unnecessary and didn't prove anything.

Good explanation. I see what Skratchy is talking about also. Since Type 2 usually affects extremely overweight or obese people PP is probably pre-diabetic. Due to being extremely overweight and or obese the fat cells absorb the insulin preventing it from making it to the blood stream to lower blood sugar levels...or something to that effect. I'm not really a Doctor I just play one on TV!;)

Well Wolfe makes a good case and he seems to back it up. Of course he can explain it a lot better than I can..i.e. one has to read the book (which contains meal plans and how to prepare each one). I will take a stab at it though.

He asserts that because of our heavy Carbohydrate diet most Americans ( I vaguely recall him referring to the USDA's "8 Essential Carbohydrates" a time or two in the book with disdain) are suffering from and dying of diseases and illness that "Cave Men and Women didn't die from. Only after the Agricultural Revolution did we start dying and suffering from cancer, kidney disease, depression, auto-immune diseases, plus the various and sundry others he lists. He goes into detail to explain why (the whole Medical Science industry must be kept afloat is one of them).

Nevertheless one thing I am certain of is that the Paleo diet is a great way to not only lose weight but keep it off as well. If one adopts the diet with conviction you can reach your normal weight and stay there.
