New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel elaborated on the team's decision to sign four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs when appearing on the "Green Light Podcast" with Chris Long.

After failing to sign multiple free agent receivers, the Patriots finally landed on a three-year, $69 million deal with Diggs, a 31-year-old wideout coming off a torn ACL. This was clearly a situation where the need was too great to pass up.

“Just trying to make sure we're supporting Drake and supporting the football team," Vrabel said. "And again, this is a highly competitive, confident receiver that's produced throughout his career in multiple ways. He's got a play strength to him that you see that he can play physical. route craft, good at the catch point, has been good in the red zone.

"There’s a play style to him that I've always appreciated and that we want to continue to enhance and make sure that he's doing things to help us. But it's just his conversation, his demeanor, his attitude and his presence have been great through our conversations. And hopefully we can continue to add good players.”

When healthy, Diggs has consistently produced at a Pro Bowl level. His best years came with quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, but he continued being productive in his one-and-done season with the Houston Texans last year as well.

He finished the year with 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns. The potential was there for him to notch his seventh straight 1,000-yard receiving season under his belt.

He'll try to get back to producing big numbers as the likely go-to target for a Patriots team that has desperately needed help at receiver for years.
