If he's as smart as he claims to be, you'd think it would occur to him that throwing your old bosses and teammates under the bus isn't exactly the best way to look for another job.

I'm starting to appreciate Sean Marks more. Seriously, what's with the Suns and their whiny 12th men big white stiffs? First Shirley, then Burke. I think the Suns should sign Gheorghe Muresan -- at least he'd be sure to appreciate the work.

Is Georghe alive still? Burke's comments at the end of the year were silly.

I think Shirley should have gladly accepted what the NBA and foreign teams offered him... the ability to play basketball for a living. If he didn't like it, he should have used his engineering degree. Few people get to live out the fantasy of playing NBA basketball with only fringe talent.

I was surprised after reading the article.

I think that the stupidest comment of Shirley was:

"In our short phone call," he writes, "Colangelo managed to imply that while paying me the absolute lowest possible salary allowed by the NBA would be frivolous, paying Shawn Marion enough that he can sit around on the team's chartered 737 wearing earrings that cost $25,000 each is a sound financial decision."

Yes, and it also smacks of jealousy. I guess if Shirley had Marion's talent he would have probably been doing the same thing.

I am reading his book right now. It has funny stories with his dry sense of humor. It is worth buying. I figure he is not getting back in the NBA but has a career as a writer. he was on with Jim Rome a couple of weeks ago and was hilarious

Maybe he will settle down and become a sports writer (not just NBA) somewhere.

What? Guiness > All, except maybe New Castle. But Fat Tire is pretty good. To bad you can't get it east of the Mississippi.

Kiltlifter is better than Fat Tire and Newcastle, and I LOVE those beers.

I guess (luckily because of price) I could never figure out the nuances in the taste of premium beers. To me it has always been good beer and beer-face. :)

I just finished the book. Shirley is very positive about the Suns in it. Don't take the quotes in the article seriously without reading the entire book. He is extremely complimentary about Steve Nash, D'Antoni, the Colangelos, and David Griffin. He says the '04-'05 season with the Suns was the best time he's ever had playing ball and that the positive environment in Phoenix was much appreciated. He also bad-mouths San Antonio a bit, so you gotta love that.

I would recommend the book. He admits his b!+ching about his "tough" life is very absurd and that his outlook on life is generally pessimistic, but it's a good read. Outside of fussing about the super-Christian on the team (Voskuhl), I don't think he was really that critical of the Suns. The story of "John" (Shawn maybe?) and "Andy" (possibly Amare?) fighting over a chair in the locker room is pretty entertaining. It's probably a small example of our team's "chemistry problem" (read: Amare and Shawn don't like each other).

Welcome to the board, Paul.

Are you serious w/ this?

What? Does my wry, cynical sense of humor not come off in print? Didn't you see the look on my face when I delivered that line? It looked something like this.

What's your fascination with Paul Shirley? Every time he does something you're there to criticize him.

Shirly beat him out for a roster spot. It's a bit of a sore subject for elindholm.
