just give him the max. can't let him get to open market. i cringe as i type "max" but i'd cry if he went elsewhere and stayed healthy. our franchise might never recover from that one. how's sarver gonna screw this one up?

If he keeps playing like this he is worth a max deal, if he stops trying again then let him walk..

He won't stop trying now its not like there is that much season left. Its a gamble because if we do sign him will he keep this up? If not then you just paid max to a guy who just turns it on when he wants $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I don't know that you can really blame this one on Sarver. It's quite possible that we're already screwed here. Three months ago there wasn't a whole lot of interest in him as a max player and now everyone with cap space is going to be looking at him. Hopefully we'll get lucky and Lebron and Wade will sign elsewhere as free agents as that will increase our chances to either re-sign him or do a sign and trade with real value returning.

Stoudemire won't leave if Phoenix offers the largest extension they can, that's a guarantee. But he suspects, and he's probably right, that they'll try to get by for a little less than that. Then the question will be whether the extra money (say, $10-20 million total, depending on what the Suns think they can stomach) is enough to entice him to change uniforms.

He's theirs to keep, if they want him at full price. No doubt there.

I'm convinced he has been on the tear he has because he is auditioning for Pat Riley to star along side Dwayne Wade in Miami, or maybe be the "Man" if Dwade flys the coop to Chicago.

He's going to end up in Miami guys, even if Sarver comes to his senses and offers the Max.

Book it.

Well Amare says he wan't to stay in phoenix so we will see at the end of year, I think if he really wants a team to pay the max for him he has to play like he is now in the playoff's and win a playoff series or two for us. But yea if we don't resign him which would just be beyond stupid then I could defintally see him going to Miami like the above poster said to play along side Wade. But I really hope we resign Amare after this year we wouldn't find a better player in fa anyways.

No thanks on the max. Let him get lazy on some other team. Also Id like to see all those people cry that said they would rather see amare walk then trade for hickson and cap room.

Amare said he wanted to go anywhere where the team was committed to build an contender. Supposedly, that was the main deal breaker before the deadline that Sarver wouldn't commit to that. Amare is not like Nash in his last couple years of career who was willing to stay with a bad team.

Show Amare the team. Give him the team. Pay him his market value. I believe he'd still be the Suns to lose.

Questioning whether Amare with extension would revert back like Diaw, AK47, Dampier etc indicates that some fans really have no idea who Amare is. When truly healthy, he always performed, to his then ability. Suns have failed him or his talent by not developing more fundamentally sound traits until maybe after his eye surjery. They limited him to be the perfect running mate to Nash for the gimmecry SSOL system, while the likes of Al and Dwight were allowed to commit tons of TOs year after year to develop their post moves. (It speaks of Amare's talent that currently he is more effective and dominant with a Malone like facing basket move than all the other bigmen, without much chance to consistently work on it in game situations.)

There no question that I will want amare back next season, and for numerous more seasons after that. I think the factor that will affect Amare's decision the most is how far we can make it into this year's playoffs. If we get knocked out in the first round again, I dont see Amare wanting to stay. Personally, I believe he is worth the max. There is no better scoring big man in th NBA at this time, and I think the last 5-10 games has proved that.

I think it has come down to the point the Suns have to extend Amare for his asking price somewhere near the max. Who is going to replace what he brings to the Suns? Quality big men are a rare commodity. I'd rather gamble on Amare for the maximum than letting him go for nothing. Waiting and hoping for a sign and trade strategy is too risky for me.

I'm not as confident about this as you are. If Miami or New York makes a push for him and either one of them looks to be maybe a PF away from a championship I can see him making a move.

As for lowballing him, I don't see that happening either. I think they'll either offer him the max or they will start the ball rolling on a sign and trade. His recent play and deportment has garnered too much league-wide interest for management to think they could sign him for anything less than max, IMO.

If Amare does leave I guarantee there will be a new poster next season featuring Amare and Robin Lopez.

But how could either of them be a PF away from a championship squad? Wade plus Stoudemire plus nothing doesn't equal championship, and neither does James plus nothing. The supporting cast in Phoenix (minus Stoudemire and Nash) is a full notch better than the one in either Miami or New York.

> As for lowballing him, I don't see that happening either.

Reports are that they've been having talks on and off for a while, and that the Suns are offering deals that Stoudemire's camp thinks are too low.

I don't see why they wouldn't offer a below-max deal even if they thought he might not take it. Also, because his current salary is higher, Stoudemire's max is more money than James's, Wade's, or Bosh's, and a lot more than Boozer's. I doubt that teams are going to be lining up to pay Stoudemire more than they'd pay James.

A true maximum extension for Stoudemire would be one of the richest deals in league history. Given how things have blown up with the two most recent mega-deals, Arenas and Rashard Lewis, I think you're going to see a lot of "near max" discussion.

A combination of James and Amare automatically contends for a championship IMO. Let's face it, the cupboard wouldn't be bare if you put those two together in New York. It might be a little harder to do it with Wade and Stoudemire in Miami but they are a playoff contender without Amare so who knows. Keep in mind, they don't actually have to be just a PF away from a championship - it just has to appear that way to Amare. Can you really say that he wouldn't consider himself enough when paired with James or Wade?

Reports are that they've been having talks on and off for a while, and that the Suns are offering deals that Stoudemire's camp thinks are too low.

I don't think they were thinking in terms of a max or near max deal when they first started discussing extensions following the trade deadline. But even so, my understanding was that the length of the contract was the real deal-breaker initially. I suspect all that has changed now with how much better Amare has played.

I don't see why they wouldn't offer a below-max deal even if they thought he might not take it. Usually, when I refer to his possible deal I mention a max/near max deal for the very reasons you bring up. I don't actually believe we are going to offer the maximum we could possibly offer so much as the maximum he could go for league-wide. I guess I should be more careful with that distinction though. I believe they will either offer a contract that cannot be significantly topped elsewhere or they will initiate discussions for a sign and trade. I think they will go out of their way to not antagonize Amare and his agent as opposed to the negotiations management had with the Johnson camp several years ago.

Amare will get a very good deal about the level of LBJ, Bosh, Wade. For these people, it's more important and prestigous to be promised a franchise propect of going forward, as the franchise player. Amare will take Suns offer if

1. the team makes Nash play like Stockton, since a worn-out Nash would be no use for playoffs.
2. they promise to try best to trade, and using the MLE, for additonal assets, with JRich/LB as baits.

In fact, though Amare/Wade would be unstoppable core, but with healthy Nash plus wise addition of supporting pieces, Suns around Amare/Nash would be not much worse for 2 years. Unless Bosh and LBJ pair up somewhere, there is still parity in the league. (Sorry for Bosh fans, I still think Amare/Wade core is much better than Bosh/Wade one.)

The 1/2 punch combo of Nash/Stoudemire will never win a title....which translates to: I'm in favor of extending Amare
You must be registered for see images

Could a tandem of Amare and say Chris Paul win a title? Would it be possible to keep Amare and sign a top PG when Nash retires?
