The pass rush was non-existent against Skins. We cannot figure it out by Jets game, Farve will pick us apart.

if those blitzes didn't seemingly get picked up all the time I'd agree with you, but they do.

Pendy should have been thrown out with the rest of the DG trash two years ago. I love the offensive staff Wiz brought in and I'll be happy when he can pick his own defensive staff next year.
Good point... CP is mediocare at best. Whiz was forced to keep him. This defense should be playing much better.

Pendy is a disaster and must go, and the stats absolutely support this view.

After 3 games the Cards are:

5th in points allowed
8th in total yards allowed
2nd in fumbles created
7th in sacks
20th in interceptions.

With all the talent he has at his disposal, it is a crime against the football Gods, that he isn't number one in all these categories.

(Even though SF scored 64 points in the two games after losing to the Cards, he should have held them to nothing, nada. And there's no reason why the Dolphins who put up 38 points on the Patriots were not also held to a goose egg.)

I'll take the majority of stats from the last two seasons and 32 game over your three game sample and hyperbole:

2007 - 24.9 ppg, 17th total
2006 - 24.3 ppg, 29th ranked D in total

He was promising in 2004, iffy in 2005 and the D has been sliding backwards since. This season IMO is still yet to be determined, but like I said, I'm just seeing the same problems that haven't been corrected in two years and that scares me.

Feel free to wallow in the past. I'll stick with the present, with some hope in the future.

geez man, my point was simply that his larger body of work doesn't impress me and I see a lot of the same problems this year as I did in years previous, especially in what I considered our first real tough test. We're just talking football. Not sure see why you seem to imply I'm hopeless or "wallowing" or living in the past, considering that you've obviously read my posts which have said "I'm seeing some of the same problems this year as last year" (seems to be a statement about what's going on in the present), or where I said "this season has yet to be determined" (doesn't seem to be a hopeless statement) or my previous post where I said "Was it a one week blip? I think we'll know more this weekend. I'm not ready to banish this D to the cellar, but Pendy doesn't give me much confidence." Just talking football. No need to take things to a personal nature or elevating the discussion to levels of hyperbole which only lead to flame wars.

Pendy must be Bill Bidwill's illegitimate son. He's been D-Coordinator for 5 freakin' years and we are as bad as we were under McGinnis/Marmie.

If we get scored 50+ points. Pendy needs to go. Okay they just got TD...

We have the tools to be much better and the fundamentals are clearly lacking.. Tackling? horrible. The db's never seem to be on the same freaking page. Go watch the Eagles secondary and you'll see how a good secondary is supposed to communicate and play together. Pendy is clearly not the answer for our defense and we need a guy who can push these guys to succeed when put in the right situations.

With who are free agents will be at the end of this season, I believe that it would be prudent to make a long-term commitment to a coordinator and a scheme.

Reason being...if we stay 3-4, we have to look into trading Dockett. Good player and a warrior, but he is not a 3-4 end. A Smith might be worth keeping for the right price. Dansby is a must keep. Green is gone. Wilson will need to offered a new contract but it might not be what he is looking for.

If we go 4-3, switch Dockett and Smith, and most of our hybrid players are gone. Might be best cap-wise, though we would need a DE pass rusher.

Dansby hasn't shown anything for the kind of money he would demand. Nothing so far.

We let a broken leg QB off the hook did anyone think he would do anything less of a 39 year old gimpy ankle QB?

Favre couldnt move in the pocket and as Dennis Green would say, "We Let um off the hook."

I still like Pendy. He runs a pretty complex defense, so I expect the team to get better.

If he's replaced in the offseason (let's be realistic--if he's replaced at all it's not going to be mid-season), then we need to find a 3-4 coordinator because that's the type of personnel we've been building for the last couple of years and likely the type of personnel that's currently being scouted. Rivera is a 4-3/4-6 guy. I can't think of a 3-4 guy out there that's going to come available next year...it'd likely be a coordinator stepping into the role (either from the cards or another 3-4 team...fortunately, there are more and more of them these days).

But, I think that the reason we'll lose Pendergast isn't because he'll be fired, he'll be released from his contract so he can take a head coaching position in 2010.

JMHO

I do not see replacing the DC after 4 games as an answer. This may create more problems than we already have. If we change it should be at the end of the year. More than the DC I think we have a lack of talent throughout the defense. We are 2 - 2 after four games. Some teams are 0 - 4. We played one quarter of horrible ball where every thing that could go wrong went wrong. Other than that we would have been in the game. Until we get some better players on defense no DC is going to make the current players into a Chicago Bear type defense. I have been wondering since the season begin if we had the defense to even carry us to an 8-8 season. If we have an 8-8 season or better it will be on the backs of the offense as that is clearly where our strength is. Teams play us like a passing team and as much as Whiz would like for us to be a running team we are not. We have no break away runners and are not likely to drive the length of the field running the ball without making a crucial mistake.

Dansby has all but disappeared. Where are the posters that wanted to pay him his huge demands?

Also Hayes is just like McKinnon gets a lot of tackles but all are 5 yards downfield. In fact our LB'ers which I thought were the strong point of our team are actually a huge weakness now.

we're in that thread that Skkorp started about Dansby needing to step up, and we're all saying he's disappeared and we're pissed about it.

Crazy stat through 3 games:

Cardinals had given up...

0 100 yard rushers
0 100 yard receivers
0 200 yard passers

Yeah, bring out the crazy stats now, guys. C'mon, where you at? That's exactly what I thought. THERE IS NO DEFENDING CP!!!

Why does this board turn on each other so easily? Win or lose, we can't be happy. Is this a Cardinal disease? I am a fan of the baseball Cardinals and Spurs and have never experienced such canabalism among the fans.

those teams are perpetually good, even championship good so while there's still lots of disagreement, there's overwhelming more good days than bad. Think about how much nicer this place was when we were 2-0. When things go bad, everything goes bad.

Agree on all points. I also wanna hear from all the people that said that Pace was a bum too and he would get embarrassed against us. He looked pretty good to me.
