I agree about the sacks, however, was I the only one that was pissed off about the laid back (prevent?) defense late in the 4th quarter?

i was screaming at the 3 man rush. if we're blanketing receivers with the extra men in coverage, then fine. but we weren't. wr were running wide open and getting huge chunks of yardage. so what's the point? put in a steady rush against a qb that hasn't proven the ability to burn the rush or blitz. dumb. and safe. and dumb.

I truly believe our defense checked out, after the Wilson interception..

I dont think they ever thought, they'd be back on the field.. especially with the terrible field position Dirk Johnson put them in..

I saw some panic at the end there.. but i really think our defense just wasnt emotionally able to get back into it that last drive.. cause after the Wilson pick, Im sure they felt the game was over

The defense held them to 17 (7 was the result of the opening kick), was in the backfield ALL NIGHT, forced 2 INTs that counted and another 2 for TDs that were called back not because of Pendergahst.

I agree that the three man rush was at times perplexing, but ultimately that didn't cost them any points.

I think the problem is our CBs. I just don't think they're good enough. DRC is still getting very raw and Hood is just okay, IMO.

Every time the Cards blitzed,Hill about wet himself and there was a bad play. Every time we laid back and rushed 3,Hill looked like Joe Montana. It wasn't that hard to see.I can't figure out why Pendy doesn't see it. Play to win. That laying back has NEVER worked for Pendy. Why he continues to use it is beyond me.

CP is essentially clueless as to how to properly coach our defense in a successful fashion. We finally have the depth to help our weapons on defense succeed, and we finally have a legitimate chance to open it up without getting torched. Instead, our defensive playcalling has been boring, predictable, and clearly not results-oriented. I think I know why, and it is highly disturbing.

I believe CP has seen the talent we do have on defense, is happy with the depth we now have, and is content to rely on that talent to create turnovers and a pass rush. Um, I'm sorry, but though we do have talent, we do NOT have the talent to play man-up defense and prevail. We NEED creativity and aggressiveness. Without it, our defense will not succeed and we will see many more poor performances. I mean, his playcalling was good on several passing plays. What happened on those plays? Pressures and sacks. Does he learn from this and work more to bring pressure? Nope. More 3-man fronts and 4-man pass rushes that even idiots in the stands like me an tell will fail miserably.

Also, CP has yet to show he can actually coach fundamentals. Our tackling remains atrocious. Our discipline is non-existant. Any misdirection or well-run timing play will beat our defense. CP needs to step up his coaching, work the basics, and get this defense together, or it's going to be a looooong season.

We have the personnel to be a really tough defense; sadly, we have the coaching to make this a really predictable and easy-to-beat defense. Get rid of CP, Whis, or force him to change his ENTIRE gameplan. Please, please, for the LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE!!!

Something has to change with our defense. I am not smart enough to know if it is Pendy or the players but clearly Defense and a Running game are the two major problems. Our offense has been over coming our poor defense and our passing game has become our running game. What a year this has been for me to be a Cub fan and a Cardinal fan. The Cubs end up with the best record in the NL and the Cards almost have the division locked up and only half of the season has been played. Not many years like this for me. I will take it and more of it. When is the last time we were 6-2? The stars are in allignment.

Our big problem in the secondary is that the guys who can cover can't tackle and the guys who can tackle can't cover.

Clancy doesn't have enough balls to call a good game all the way through. He wets himself at the thought of what might happen if he becomes overaggressive. We need a DC who is not a coward, who is not afraid to call aggressive defense ALL THE TIME. It's crystal clear: when we really pin our ears back, good things seem to happen the majority of the time. When we play meek and scared packages, we get ripped. DUH! How about we don't do that? Well, we'll keep doing it as long as we have the ball-less Pendy.

Yeah, that's pretty over the line IMO. You don't like the way he calls the game, fine. Saying that he's a coward...lame.

Context is a wonderful thing. I was clearly not calling him a coward in life, but a coward as a DC. But hey, let's not let context get in the way of derailing the point.

This is the last I'll say about Pendergahst: He's a very good DC. We'll be lucky to keep him in the coming years.

his defense is completely undisciplined as seen with the worst penalities at the worst time, they've have been atrocious tacklers since he's been here, they've been ranked 14, 17, 29th, 8 and 12th for defensive rankings and we've given up an average of 23.2 ppg during his tenure. I'm not sure how watching this team or even looking at the stats can lead you to believe he's a very good DC. He looked like he had promise in 2004 but it's been downhill since as far as I'm concerned.

As much on the players as is it is on the coaches. You can teach a man to tackle, but it's up to him to wrap up.

If it's one game, or one season, sure. Now? Nope. The entire defense has problems with it at points, and they have for years, which makes it fall back on the coaches.

We need a new DC. Period.

We should be much better with the talent we have.

And I'm sick and tired of this 3 man rushes, prevent defenses...

The Scouts Inc. guys were all just gushing over Pendy on today's ESPN Football podcast. They said, among other things, he'll be in line for HC jobs and that he's keeping coaches up at night. They liked the disruption he causes with the pressure packages and say that that kind of defense is hard to prepare for and could be a nightmare for teams in the playoffs.

Also, they gave props for AZ being a better team now then they were in September.

The D had a solid game yesterday. They only allowed points if we spotted the Seahawks the ball inside the redzone. Their biggest mistake was Dansby not taking a knee in the endzone after the INT.

Good gameplan. Good execution.

the only problem i have with Clancy is his prevent D. Its tissue soft. the three man attack doesnt work.

Other than that, I wish he would blitz AW and Dansby more. Good plays come about when those two are blitzing.

I agree, except that every time AW hits a QB now someone is crying foul and trying to get him suspended... I am guessing that Archie Manning is lobbying with Goodell already about the Hasselbeck hit just so li' Eli won't end up drooling soup...

Gambo and Ash said that the Cards have forced the most turnovers in the league (22). I'm guessing that may have something to do with our DC

I don't think Pendy's a BAD DC. I just think he's mediocre and we can do better.

Part of it sure and part of it is on the personnel. We run a high risk, high reward defense that's heavy on blitzing.

We don't have the defensive personnel to run a base defense and rely on that. We tried that the first half of the MNF game and that didn't work out too well.

Maybe so but yesterday they scored TD's on drives of 19, 11, and 14 yards.

Not to mention on one of the drives it took them 4 downs in a goal-to-go situation, and on another they basically had 8 tries inside the 10.

I think the defense played really well yesterday. The score is deceptive as is the per game average because of the 50+ that the Jets hung on us...the defense was put in some bad spots in that game.
