Funny how it appears that the divide on this forum between those that thought we were primed for a run and those(like myself) that felt we were headed nowhere are flip flopping at the apparent impending trade. Weird.
Not that i believe that SHaq would put us over the top mind you...but IMO he'd give us a slightly better chance come playoff time.

Zo isn't needed to make the trade work. Banks/Marion for Shaq qorks straight up.

I'm just repeating what I was told. The $$ portion was speculation on my part.

I don't know why we'd want Zo though especially in his current condition

I want to see the complete deal before I render judgement.

The Sarver era hasn't been a stellar one for trades.

Oh well, Amare must be ecstatic. Slaq is his idol.

This is absolutely the craziest thing that has ever happened with this franchise, hands down. There have been big moves in the past, obviously, some courageous steps forward and some total head-scratchers. But this is just utterly, unfathomably bizarre.

I absolutely will not believe it until I see O'Neal take the floor in a Suns uniform. A press conference will not convince me.

The board will certainly be interesting the next few weeks.

Well the problem on my end is that if it is in fact Shaq for marion + banks I won't be watching shaq take the floor because I won't watch the suns anymore, period.

*edit: And to be brutally honest, there is no way coach wanted this deal, so if it happends and I were Mike D'antoni, I would resign.

It doesn't make much sense. Im sure Zo would rather just retire in Miami since I believe thats where he lives and has played his whole career and what not.

If the Heat are going to pair someone w/ Shaq, I'd hope it would be someone more like Dorrell Wright who's at least young, has a small contract, and possibly upside. Who knows, maybe he'd grow into a Marion replacement to some degree in the future.

If Shaq is coming here, obviously the best deal for Phoenix would be Diaw-Marion-Banks for Shaq-Dorrell Wright-Haslem. It gets rid of three bad contracts for the Suns, and one terrible contract for the Heat. Haslem is a decent PF, and perhaps Wright has some potential.

5. Shaq/Skinner
4. Amare/Haslem
3. Hill/Wright
2. Bell/Barbosa
1. Nash/Nobody

Would be much better than the deal we're hearing about, but thats probably why it won't happen. I'm sure you'd still have Amare playing minutes at the 5, with Haslem at the 4, which would help reduce Shaqs minutes.

Anyone that thinks we were going to win a title with this current roster is delusional.

Marion is/was our biggest trading piece that wouldnt kill us if moved (Amare and Barbosa does)

To trade him for a top 5 center in this league is a good trade plain and simple.

This moves Amare to his natural position where he can now hide on defense and have a big body in the middle helping him keep people off the offensive glass and out of the paint.

It probably solves any chemistry problems we've had on the team.

Plus maybe finally DA will learn to accept change and try a more slowed down but still exciting brand of basketball. One where having two legit bigmen in the paint helps us from teams murdering us on the offensive glass.

Now just trade our TE to Memphis with Atlantas pick for Mike Miller and call it a day.

Nash/Strawberry
Bell/Barbosa
Miller/Hill
Amare/Diaw
Shaq/Skinner

Thats a championship caliber lineup right there!

Makes me wonder if this was another of Amare's half-cocked ideas for getting a center here.

We're currently 4th in pace and 2nd in the league in scoring at 109.4 pts a game.

Any guesses on how far these stats will drop with this trade?

Marion and Shaq should score close to the same amount, just in different ways. Maybe a basket less for Shaq and a few missed free throws. However, Amare will get even more shots at the 4.

Scoring I will call it close to a wash. However, Marion makes about 3 plays a game that lead to a direct possession change and easy buckets. I am going to say the Suns drop to 105.0 or a loss of 4.4 PPG.

Hopefully their point differential will remain about the same and will see a likewise drop.

To 112 maybe?;)

This isn't 1998. Our scoring will definitely go down with Shaq playing.

Hopefully our defense goes up. That's what we made this deal for. Amare better average around 11 boards a game.

This trade is f**ing crazy.

And I Love it.

This is a total reaction move to Pau Gasol BUT....

Nothing is as vengeful then a superstar needing to prove his worth.

A motivated Shaq for a two year rental? Like Gasol a good risk being that marion was either going to opt out for nothing or take up as much payroll as Shaq without any double teams or post presence.

I'm obviously skeptical but I like the roll of the dice.

Ten bucks Nash get Shaq numbers closer to the Heat title run then the Shaq of this year.....

Who cares, Regular season statistics mean crap and i wish some fans would finally take notice to that.

In the playoffs you need to beable to rebound the ball to score, and with this current team we wouldnt make it past the 2nd round without another inside presence.

Any trade that gets us a 7ft 300+lb load at center for a 6'7ft twig playing Powerforward is a plus for us. Especially when that center is a top 5 player of alltime that has been half assing it because his current team is brutal. And the so called "powerforward" we're trading is a guy that vanishes when we need him most in big playoff games.

While Shaq's health is a risk, its a risk worth taking considering this was starting to become another lost season if we stood pat with our current roster.

A healthy Shaq gives us a way better shot at a title than Marion could ever give us. Hell Shaq at 75% gives us more of a legit title shot.

For once we agree. Remember we're talking about one of the top ten players in NBA history. He was getting mocked by the media all throughout the season about how he was done, and playing on a crappy team. He's going to come back with a vengeance.

A friend listening to local radio in Florida is saying that the deal would be

Shaq plus Miami 1st this year
for
Marion, Banks, ATL pick.

If this is the case, I'm all for it. We weren't winning it all the way we were. This at lease gives us a little run. Who know what Shaq's presence down low would do for Amare.

Give me the ping pong balls.

I agree whole heartedly that Mike was prob on his knees pleading Kerr to keep Marion here.
