I'm not bashing the OP, but has Jurecki been right on anything lately? Not saying it isn't true, but it seems like he jumps the gun quite a bit these days.

Makes sense. Chance Larry gets Haley back as WR coach went up. I see that hire way before I see Haley becoming our QB coach.

Wait, why does this make sense? Someone please tell me that McNulty has some serious, high-level experience as a QB coach.
Let's expand the above comment a little?

What should be the job description of a QB coach?

I'm assuming it would involve (1) understanding and perfecting the mechanics of footwork, delivery, defense-reading, pocket-sense etc., (2) being a sounding-board, confidant and even an attitude-adjuster with the goal of putting each QB in a "good place" mentally, (3) good communicator up & down the coach-to-player food-chain - that sort of stuff.

The job description would probably vary depending on whether your QB's were seasoned veterans, whether they were mainly young or whether you had one QBOF needing to be developed.

Former QB's, college QB coaching wunderkinds and experienced QB gurus would tend to fill the top of my list of candidates.

I don't know all that much about McNulty's background coaching QB's. If he has coached QB's, all well and good. If not, uh oh! If we place all our marbles on young guys like Kolb and Skelton, they're going to need stronger support from the press booth or sidelines from a QB coach who knows what he's doing.

I think, while a QB coach is somewhat important, the player will dictate how good a QB coach will be. There's not a QB coach out there that is going to take Troy Smith and make him a Drew Brees. Do Manning and Brady really need QB coaches?

The QB coach's main role is to have a positive relationship with the QB and get his input to the OC for help developing a game plan.

Man loving the Wire references coming from this board lately.

Best. Show. Ever.

If it isn't, it is damn close. Maybe it needed to be longer than 5 short seasons to be the best.... I dunno.

I disagree. You described what an already-developed veteran QB needs. We have a completely raw vet QB and a kid at QB that has very raw mechanics. Both Kolb and Skelton NEED a QB coach that can teach them fundamentals, footwork, mechanics, and the like. I don't see that in McNulty's bio. Some work at Rutgers. While I like Schiano, and while he was hired to coach in the pros, I don't really see him being successful with the Bucs. McNulty did some work with QBs at Rutgers. That does NOT fill me with confidence that he is the guy to help Skelton realize his potential, or to try and salvage Kolb. He definitely has the credentials as a WR coach, which he was, but I don't see him as the QB coach we need.

I see your point but I would hope every QB at the NFL level coach knows fundamentals, footwork, and mechanics. My point is they can only do so much. After that, it's more about the talent of the player.

Kurt warner improved under QB coaching in Arizona. Your argument is invalid. EVERYONE can always improve on something and thats what coaches are for. Sure you should be able to play already but tweaks to little things can make huge strides in your game.

True. Warner was in mid thirties when he finally learned ball security.

stats don't bear that out.
2005- 6 fumbles
2006- 6 fumbles
2007- 5 fumbles
2008- 9 fumbles
2009- 10 fumbles.

I would also argue that Warner was much better in St. Louis than Arizona so I find it hard to say he improved with coaching in Arizona. He was a better fit for the system than he was in NY.

There is a big difference between all of those at the college level and at the professional level, especially with small school QBs. I mean, you're basically taking someone with high-school level coaching (Fordham?) and putting him in the pros. I would REALLY like someone with experience trying to help Skelton along rather than McNutty.

In arizona he had fumble problems and got better about it over time. He also was pretty bad when he came here and we were all calling for Lienart to come in. Over time, coaching and etc he improved and got back to elite level. he credits Haley often on helping him improve and Haley often commented on Warners willingness to be coached and improve on little things.

Everyone can improve on everything in our lives and having a coach makes it easier. period. If coaching doesnt matter for elite people why do they still need a coach? silly argument.
