Janet was the one, other than that, we don't know. We do know there was a town in Mexico, but they were not in that one. We do not know where their town was. Joe was part of the program though.
Yep nice synopsis above. It had the fatal flaw I was afraid of from early on, they had no problem creating mysteries, they just never found a way to tie up the mysteries into an explanation that made any sense, so they never tried to explain it.
What ticked me off was one of the late episodes they specifically said watch the last 2 episodes of Season 1 next week when all will be explained. And all wasn't explained, they just set up season 2, which I have no intention of watching if it somehow gets on tv.
I think the 2 things that ruined this show for me the most were:
1) Someone clearly told the writers early on in their careers that character growth is a sign of good writing, characters that stay the same throughout a show is bad. This show took it to an extreme, one week 2 characters wanted to kill each other, the next
week they were friends. People's personalities changed way too easily on the show. I guess they were saying people respond to
manipulation no matter who they think they are, they're not truly free, but it was not believable.
2) the whole thing with Janet made no sense, she's supposed to be this absolutely compelling figure that everyone loves, but it was never clear to me why? The only thing that truly made her endearing was she wanted to get back to her daughter. She was attractive but not so attractive that it made sense to see men risking their lives to help her. She was intelligent but not so intelligent that people would be drawn to her. There just wasn't anything about her that was so special it explained why she was "the one."
In the end I just didn't believe the characters would have acted the way they did.
