But thats neither here nor there. Becasue you do have opinbions that you express well, as above, and I do appreciate your views be them here or in the Suns forum or wherever. I do have a HUGE ego, but it has nothing to do with living in NYC, so Ill let that little pot shot go. It was much bigger when I was 20 and living in that ******** town Phoenix. The point is, that I will continue to post and you will most likely continue to call it whining and I imagine we'll gop down this road again. Cool with me. I enjoy a good flame war. Sorry if you dont. You could always put me on ignore. Much like you, I wouldnt lose any sleep over it either. I wont however put you on ignore. Frankly, I like pulling your chain.

Back to the topic at hand, eh?

I don't like putting people on ignore about as much as I like using my moderator powers to ban people (I hate it).

As for the NYC thing, that was just a tongue-in-cheek joke. I didn't mean anything by it (in fact, right now I would prefer to live in NYC than LA).

What was this thread about again? :D

I THINK it was about a giant ape. But I dont really remember. maybe Im more venomous cause I dont sit in front of a computer for a living anymore, so when i do actually take a couple hours to catch up, I tend to make sure I get my best shots in. Whatever. You and I are like an old married couple. There will be more fights, and I cant wait.

King Kong Trailer with War of the Worlds
Source: KongisKing.net
June 6, 2005

KongisKing.net has confirmed that you'll get your first look at Peter Jackson's King Kong in theaters with Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds on June 29th. The trailer is expected to be released online on Tuesday, June 28.

The trailer will reportedly give you a first peek at King Kong in action. The movie stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody, with Andy Serkis performing the movements for Kong, much like he did for Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Universal Pictures will release King Kong on December 14th.

King Kong Trailer coming June 27th

Universal & NBC Combine for Big 'King Kong' Push
It may be six months before Universal's King Kong opens on December 14, 2005 but, in an unprecedented act of cross-platform marketing, the studio will be joining up with its NBC broadcast and cable siblings for the premiere of its first trailer for the movie on Monday June 27. From 8:59:30 to 9:02 p.m. the NBC broadcast network, as well as the Sci Fi, USA Network, Bravo, MSNBC, CNBC, Telemundo, Mun2 and Universal HD cable networks will simultaneously air the trailer. NBC Universal estimates that it will reach 109 million viewers. The trailer will also be shown on the Jumbotron screens in Times Square and at the Universal CityWalk attractions in Orlando, FL and Universal City, CA. The trailer will move into theaters on June 29.

Holy cow - 3 hours for Kong!

King Kong Clocks in at Three Hours
Source: The New York Times
October 27, 2005

The New York Times reports that Peter Jackson's King Kong is substantially longer than Universal Pictures had anticipated and the extra length (mostly due to the special effects) has helped increase the budget by a third, to $207 million. The studio paid Jackson and Fran Walsh $20 million to create the film.

Universal executives got to see a version of the film in late September in New Zealand and now with seven weeks to go, they have agreed to release King Kong at a length of three hours. Each of the three "Lord of the Rings" films had a length around the same time.

"This is a three-hour feast of an event," said Marc Shmuger, vice chairman of Universal Pictures, who described the film as a tragic love story between the ape and Naomi Watts, who plays Ann Darrow, an actress. "I've never come close to seeing an artist working at this level."

"I anticipated it would be long, but not this long," added Universal chairwoman, Stacey Snider. As recently as late September, she expected about two hours and 40 minutes, she said. But on Wednesday she expressed delight with the picture she's got: "This is a masterpiece. I can't wait to unveil it."

King Kong will be released on December 14.

This is actually pretty unprecedented. Most studios hate releasing movies this long because you simply can't show it as many times in a day at a movie theater. Running times are a HUGE deal with movie studios--interesting that Peter Jackson is getting so much leeway, and that the studio bigwigs like the movie so much that they're willing to release it at that length.

Worst. Movie. Ever.

More than half of the movie consisted of close-up shots of Kong and Naomi Watts staring at each other or some distant view. Three hours of my life I'm unfortunately never getting back.

I hope Mao's opinion has nothing to do with the fact that he's a UofA grad. ;)

Personally, I thought the movie was fabulous. It was a little long, but it wasn't a "bad" type of long. It was amazing the kind of character that Kong was able to express--very good movie.

Three hour movies about a monkey and a woman being in love is a bit too much. Especially when about 30 minutes of this excessive movie were close-ups of King Kong's scarred grill. Not kidding.

Had this movie not been a remake, I doubt even the most desperate B-movie film company would greenlight this piece of garbage. Uninteresting characters and cheesy dialogues are annoying enough in a two hour long movie, but stretch that to over three hours and you got one bored customer.

Mao doesn't speak for all of us UA guys. :)

I thought the movie was great. Sure it was long, but it never seemed that way as I thought all of what happened was necessary.

Great character development, the CGI was just amazing.

Going to have to disagree with Mao.

Saw Kong today and must say it was amazing. It was a three hour movie, but felt like two. The T-rex battle was sweet; battle royale anyone? I thought Jackson got a little lucky with Rings since it hadn’t been done before, but he did a superb job with Kong. If this doesn’t validate him as one of the best directors, story tellers or visionaries of today, I don’t know what does. There were some subtle, but good, homage to the past movies. Some corny parts, but overall I’d say it’s worth $7.50 out of an $8 ticket. Easily matinee price.

If you don't want to psycho analyze a movie but would rather just sit back and enjoy a movie for being a movie, this is one to see.

'King Kong' Bombing Big Time at Box Office
Saturday, December 17, 2005
By Roger Friedman

What's happened? Peter Jackson's "King Kong" — a three-hour, $300 million extravaganza that wowed advance screening audiences — is a catastrophe in the making.

On Thursday, Kong's take was a measly $6,295,755 — off $3.5M from Wednesday's weak $9,755,745 opening day. Kong ranks now as the 21st best Wednesday opening ever — a dubious distinction.

Something is certainly wrong. It could be the movie's daunting length, or even a slow middle section that would have benefited from cutting. The leads are all solid actors — Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody, Jack Black — but none of them is a star attraction. That might be the trouble, but I doubt it.

In fact, Kong seems like a no-brainer. Great special effects, and a main character — the ape — that is more three-dimensional than a lot of humans in movies this winter.

But there's some kind of snafu, and if Universal doesn't figure it out shortly, "King Kong" could turn into a king-sized headache.

One stumbling block to a bigger take may be that you simply cannot take young children to see this movie. It is way too intense. So my advice: get a sitter. Jackson's movie is a smart three-hour video game/fun house/theme park.

It cost $207mil. Not sure where they're getting $300mil from unless they're including marketing, but almost $100mil of marketing it a LOT. It'll have a good Fri-Sun showing and should be able to run for a while.

Saw it this morning, thought it was great.... they certainly could have hired someone to actually do some editing, but overall it was pretty good...

Did not notice long close ups of Kongs face and the overplay on the love portion as mentioned but there is one dino scene that is about 20 minutes too long...
