I guess we can take solace in the fact that this guy is ALWAYS wrong. Putting the Lions at 11 and us at 30 is a freaking joke right

30. Arizona: If I had a quarter for every time I heard, "This is the year the Cardinals finally make that leap to respectability,'' I'd be Warren Buffett.

No Peter if you had a quarter for everytime you went to the Buffet......than you would be Bill Gates. Jacka$$

He's just mad that his favorite MVP pick retired and he can't pick him again.

So you think the Lions will be the 11th best team in the league, but that we'll only be 30th?

I'll only believe we will be better than the Lions or any other crappy NFL team, once we actually prove it...

Let's see. Another year and more coaching changes for the Cards. More large-scale shake up on the OL... And hey, let's toss in the potential fo shifting our defensive scheme to a 3-4 and moving career-long DE's to OLB's... Moving a career-long DT to DE (Dockett)...
I guess you think that "this is the year"! These are finally the changes that we've needed!! LMAO... I'm sure you've never felt that way before right?

I'm a season-ticket holding FAN! But I am not about to annoint the Cards and grant them anything until they actually prove something...

I don't care for the guy, and I have a special hatred for Sports Illustrated for reasons I'm not even going to start to explain here.

That said, until our team manages to finish a season with a winning record, I wouldn't object to every one of these pundits anchoring our team with the rank of 32, all year, every year. Just give us a permanent spot at 32 until we earn our way out of it. What would be the difference? I can't generate any anger anymore for anyone that doesn't believe. No matter who we hire, what we spend, who we bring in, its going to take proof before belief at this point. Don't sing it Chico, Bring it! My motto for these Cardinals from now on, until we see some consistent winning.

Every year I've bought into the hype and had the season turn to ashes before my very eyes.

Even back in 2003, when I knew that we would be one of the worst teams in the league, Skkorp wrote a brief article predicting a 11-5 season, and I bought in again. (After reading that article, I wrote on the office lunchroom calendar that on the last day of the season the Cards would be 11-5 and in the playoffs. Some wise guy tore off that page and it still hangs there :D ).

This year I don't expect this team to do squat. My expectations couldn't be any lower.

So don't be surprised if we are in the playoffs.

I'm personally predicting 5-11 again, so until the Cards actually do something on the field, this is exactly what they deserve on paper....

Jeez! Is this deja vu, or something? This is the SAME argument we have on the board EVERY year about this time....

82:

The problem is, Peter King didn't say much of anything. I'm normally a fan of King's MMQB column, but even I'm disappointed by the short shrift given the Cards in today's list. At least when his colleague Paul Zimmerman has too little interest in a team to bother studying them, Dr. Z admits it.

And that's clearly what's happened with this "ranking." It wasn't that many years ago that King made Flagstaff one of the stops on his summer tour of training camps, appeared to have done his homework before showing up, and had some reasonably insightful things to say about what he saw.

But with 32 teams to cover, national columnists--unlike local beat writers--get to make choices about how they spend their time. And King's obviously decided that in-depth analysis of the Cardinals is a waste of his. ("New head coach, 2nd-year QB, no OL or DL. Same division as the Seahawks and Rams, who I've picked #9 and #10. Cards at #30 sounds about right.")

So let's hope that King's as wrong about this off-handed "evaluation" as he was with his more-considered predictions of Plummer as MVP, and that the Cardinals will be far better this year than he thinks.

Of course, that won't take much. ;)

All I am saying is that WTF have the Lions done that would have them be considered for the 11th best team in the league and then place us at 30th? If his argument is we keep hearing how great Arizona will be, then how does that same argument not transalte over to the Lions>

Plus he has the Vikings at 31? I am concerned over there QB play as well but every other facet of their team is quite strong.

Like I said this guy makes the stupidest picks on a year to year basis. I agree that we havn't shown anything to be considred a contender yet but we are in the top 20 on just talent alone....

Dude, if you haven't figured it out yet, let me remind you once again... Worrying about where other teams are "ranked" does nothing to create W's for the team you support. I would recommend focusing on the Cards and hoping that they somehow figure out how to create more W's than L's... That would be a good start here!

AF:

King has Detroit at #13, not #11. He also qualified the rating by saying, "Some year I'll pick the Lions to do something good and actually be right about the prediction."

It sounds like he's counting on the Lions' offense being more productive in their second year under OC Mike Martz. (They weren't bad last year, with the league's #5 passing offense, in which Jon Kitna had a career year with 4,208 yards.) And he thinks that HC Rod Marinelli's defense will be more effective in his second year with the team. Those are reasonable expectations, IMO.

My guess is that the Lions will be worse, and the Cardinals better, than King has ranked them here. But that's the thing about opinions--everyone has one.

Yeah I can play that game too. I think the Cardinals will be better because this is Leinarts second year and wiz is bringing a run first mentality.

It doesnt really effect things either way. To be honest I am glad that bozo picked us because like i said he is ALWAYS wrong. I just think it is specious reasoning to give a one line cop out excuse like "everyone always says the Cardinals will be better" and fails to give any real reasons like maybe - " i still dont like the upgrades to the oline" or "the transition to the 3-4 will be tough".

Its just specious reasoning. I KNOW we haven't done anything. But never before have we combined good coaching with talent. We will see how it all plays out but to me it begs of ignorance to say the cardinals will be bad because they have always been bad. Yeah same thing with the Rams in 2000, The Bucaneers in the 90's and the Bengals earlier this millennium. If you are going to actually tell me that we are going to be worse off WITHOUT DENNY GREEN then atleast back that point up.

Thanks big guy for the heads up. Maybe if i focus on how the Cards will get better, all that time spent will cause an Up in the W's column for them in the coming year.

Or maybe I am just a fan who loves my team. And if someone is going to bash them, i would like credible, realistic, coherent arguments to back those thoughts up.

Kind of the opposite of your post if you will.;)

Until the Cardinals prove that they can will on Sunday, a bottom 1/3 ranking in all polls makes sense.

The only problem I had was Oakland ranked ahead of us. Other than that, until the Cards actually win some games, low rankings should be expected.

Again and again, we fall into the trap of reading what some so-called expert has to say and confusing this with "reality."

We are what we are - a combination of our final W & L last season along with net gains and losses in talent at the player and coaching and compared to where the other NFL teams are.

I'll make a reminder to add King's remarks to the (poorly maintanined) BRS "naysayers" page and see how accurate he seems by the end of next season.

New coaching staff

First year coaching staff

New defensive scheme with holdover players from a prior defensive scheme

New offensive philosophy with holdover players from a prior offensive philosophy

More than questionable O-line situation

Questionble defensive health and depth

Astrnomically talented players in skill positions, but questionable role players throughout

_______________________________________________________________________

Predicting a placement of 30 out of 32 is more than fair with all those damned questionables in there....

I'm putting us at 34th until we actually do something. Right behind the Clippers and Corona del Sol Aztecs.

What do you have against my beloved CDS? And what do the Clippers and Cardinals have to do with them?

Edit - Okay i just re-read that. Was that a compliment or a cut down? K9 or Section 11, please explain...
