I think it basically worked out where the more important raw athleticism was to the position the less important wonderlic scores were in general. That's not to say it doesn't help to be smart, just that a freak athlete at DB who is dumb as rocks can still contribute whereas a freak athlete at QB who is dumb as rocks can't.

Didn't Vince Young score a TD last night? :D

So did Cam Newton but he didn't qualify.

a 21 has to ease the fears of some scouts about Newton's baseline intelligence, and exceeds Dan Marino and Jim Kelly's scores of 16 on the test. Negative comparison: Jamarcus Russell got a 24. (Sad face goes here.)

Then today, when Horton called back to Chuck and Vince, he said they aren't ruling out starting Peterson on Week 1. So this only compounds my confusion. Yesterday Horton was unhappy with his progress, today he's not ruling out a Week 1 start.

Hmm sounds like he's employing the mystical powers of a thing called "motivation" :D

First he says something to humble Peterson, a guy who admits he's cocky.

Then he comes back and says he has a chance to start game 1. Hmm...sound like he's trying to say "Work harder Peterson if you want the starting job. You can earn it this year."

No it was not changed by me. I would never sink that low. I am saying that I, Crisper57, do not get how he is being taught. I did not intend this thread to be an attack on Peterson. Rather, I thought it was a curiosity that Horton would try to throw so much on a rookie at once, given the shortened offseason.

In another life, I used to teach. I subscribe to the theory that if a student is not grasping a concept, the teacher merely hasn't found a way to reach them yet. If PP is struggling, which is what his Coordinator said, then maybe the coaches should find a different way to bring him along. Maybe this kid, who I think will touch greatness eventually, will learn better if he can take on one position at a time.

Based on the two interviews, I took away that Peterson's brain is on overload with everything they are throwing at him and the transition to the pro's. That is to be expected, given the short offseason. I just hope they aren't doing him a disservice. That was all I was trying to say. I love the guy. I just question how the coaches are handling him, especially taking to the airwaves to air their concerns with his progress, when the failure to date is theirs, not his.

BTW, I am much much more excited about our new CB than I ever was about our third-choice DC.

I apologize for casting aspersions on you. I am a little protective of our rookies when I think that people are getting on them in camp. I remember Bob Kemp ripping Larry Fitzgerald repeatedly on his show during Fitz's first camp because he was not running routes well. We saw how that worked out. Unless they are a complete disaster (Buster Davis) I think that we owe them a solid 10 games before judgement

No worries. I was probably a little defensive prior to my morning coffee. I wanted to discuss if the coaches were going down the right road in terms of training, but admittedly, the thread did evolve (or devolve) into comments on PP's intelligence and role as a rookie.

I hope he lives up to his potential. I can't wait to see him break the starting lineup. I was just a little worried that the coaching might hinder him getting started. I should be more patient.

(I hate Bob kemp). Hope Asher replaces him in January. Kemp is boring and lame.

1060 would be a monster if they did that. There's a commercial on during Chuck and Vince (I think for Cadillac) that talks about how Greg Schulte and Mark Asher have been talking about this specific product for a long time now. Whenever I hear it, I have to wonder if that company knows what stations it is advertising on. :|

I love Bob Kemp. He's a little more into baseball than I'd like, but he has legit Cards analysis and was one of the few media types who didn't fall for Dave McGinnis's snake oil or convince themselves that J.J. Arrington was going to solve the Cards' QB woes. He was the only one saying last year that not only wasn't Max Hall starter material, he didn't even look like he belonged at an NFL training camp.

Kemp's is the only local sports show I can bear to listen to. Not sure why Horton is spending more time calling into local radio shows than DesertDawg, though. :D

PP did a great job reading the one play and returning it for a TD. However he was also picked on by Rivers as well. I don't think PP fully gets it yet but he is well on his way.
