By just about every statistical measure he is already an elite corner. Two penalties on the year, 3 picks, hasnt given up a TD, his metric stats place him as among the best defenders in the entire league.

No clue what he did on Sunday to inspire this rant... its like if the guy he is covering makes a single catch then Peterson is terrible.

Hey, I love exaggeration as much as the next guy, even if the next guy is Bill Walton, but this one's a bit out there. We've all stressed over and again that he is a good corner, it's just that he doesn't measure up to the "best in the game" label that some of the talking heads have applied to him. I think the lowest anyone here has graded him is average. I think he's better than average but I don't think he's elite yet either. He's good and has all the tools necessary to become great but he's not there yet.

Leon Hall hasn't been heathy

...so top 12.
Samuel is pretty much a safety. Rogers is solid, but is probably a product of playing in SG, how did he end up in SF again? PP is right there with most of this list, to me anyways. Nmadni maybe....3 years ago.

That's the way ASFN is about most things. A guy misses one tackle and he becomes the worst tackler in the NFL. A guy gets hurt and misses a game and he's injury prone. A guy drops a pass and he drops everything. A guy throws two passes in the dirt and every pass he threw was in the dirt.

Freakish athletic potential, but by no means a shutdown corner (yet).

Opposing teams are unafraid to challenge him and will remain that way until he consistently makes them pay.

Overrated right now, but he's a good hardworking kid. As to his future upside - I wouldn't bet against him.

PP deserves some hate for the last few games but this is a dumb thread since he did nothing wrong against the Vikes

Where's the hate? Are you people that keep saying this actually reading the posts in this thread.

At this point, I really want to see him make a break on a pass, jump the route, and make a pick. He just hasn't made that type of play on the ball yet. Hell, DRC did that twice, in the second half, in a huge win up in Seattle his rookie year. If he had DRC's instincts for the ball, and ball skills, then we would have an elite CB for the next 10 years barring injury.

And, no, I don't think we'd be better off with DRC. Overall, Peterson is a better football player.

I do not question Peterson or anyone on this defense right now...really, that is pointless when they are holding opposing teams to enough points on average that if this team had a offense with any life we would be winning

Look, I think PP is a good ball player, but if the last few games haven't proven he's not yet near stud level I don't know what to say. It's more than just coverage skills (which seem to be eroding), its poor tackling too. He's not what most people have made him out to be.

Great chart. Try watching the games too. I believe what my eyes tell me, and for awhile now my eyes tell me, "yo Ouchie, less than impressed with your boy PP."

Also, do you recognize that according to those charts PP is being targeted more than anyone else and the offense is racking up the most yards on him?

What do targets mean if he's doing a good job overall? Who cares if he gets targeted if he's only allowing 42%? Are we just complaining to complain? Are you just trying to grasp at anything because the statistics back up the fact he's been playing good this year? I realize we're frustrated, but c'mon..

Where is your reading comprehension? I said I thought he was a good player, but overrated when called elite. I think those numbers back that up m

What numbers back that up? Your theory that because he's being targeted a lot, he's not elite? He's not elite yet because his ball skills are off and his tackling has been suspect. His coverage in terms of targets/catches are elite numbers. 14 for 42 (33%) is all you could ask for.
Just think this thread is being harsh on the guy. "FLAT OUT OVERRATED!11!11"
Nah. Guess we can create a D-Wash is "FLAT OUT OVERRATED" thread because he's leading the NFL in missed tackles.

It's all relative. Those qbs had horrid games, but they still chose to pick on PP and had the most success against him. If you extrapolate that trend and then replace ponder and Fitzpatrick with a manning or Rodgers those numbers are likely to look much worse.
