It's all relative. Those qbs had horrid games, but they still chose to pick on PP and had the most success against him. If you extrapolate that trend and then replace ponder and Fitzpatrick with a manning or Rodgers those numbers are likely to look much worse.

Think it has more to do with the fact he's typically lined up against opposing QBs' favorite targets (Hartline, Amendola, Harvin, etc).

What numbers back that up? Your theory that because he's being targeted a lot, he's not elite? He's not elite yet because his ball skills are off and his tackling has been suspect. His coverage in terms of targets/catches are elite numbers. 14 for 42 (33%) is all you could ask for.
Just think this thread is being harsh on the guy. "FLAT OUT OVERRATED!11!11"
Nah. Guess we can create a D-Wash is "FLAT OUT OVERRATED" thread because he's leading the NFL in missed tackles.

You know where there's a difference between PP and dwash? Dwash is concurrently making big impactful plays. PP just isn't. And when you WATCH the games you see two things (1) dwash making plays and (2) and PP playing less than stellar D.

I agree there to an extent (definitely about DWash making more impactful plays). The thing that annoys me about PP (and our CBs in general) is the lack of awareness when the ball is in the air. That's about it. The tackling issue is a problem throughout the defense.. not really sure what has happened there.

Yeah, that's just absolutely confounding to me.

Calling out Patrick Peterson is like calling out George Clooney for that Batman movie.

Sometimes you just don't have much help and make bad decisions.

What do targets mean if he's doing a good job overall? Who cares if he gets targeted if he's only allowing 42%? Are we just complaining to complain? Are you just trying to grasp at anything because the statistics back up the fact he's been playing good this year? I realize we're frustrated, but c'mon..

Did you watch the game? Was that doing a good job, or being burnt like a piece of toast? If you think that was a good job, I have some ocean front land in Kansas I'd like you to buy.

Yeah, PP21 at least needs to wrap up better after getting his arse handed to him in coverage....poor showing last night. We have no chance if he can't be a tight (forget lockdown) coverage guy.

Crabtree had 2 TD's, both on PP... The 2nd PP was sadly worked... He looked bad. Very, very bad...

Peterson looked horrible tonight.

I guess the technique of looking back for the ball is too much for him.

And he is a ghost on punt returns.

And he has to start tackling like a man.

He gets a big fat F for last night.
--------------------------------------------

Gonna be good, but he has to learn what being a professional is. See Fitz on the last offensive play of the game for the Cardinals

Peterson is fine.

On punt returns I think Peterson is really missing Richard Marshall. Marshall was OK as a CB but his real value was creating an initial lane for Peterson on Punt Returns. I think Marshall is sorely missed in that respect.

Crabtree had 2 TD's, both on PP... The 2nd PP was sadly worked... He looked bad. Very, very bad...

The thing is he's close, he's just not making plays. That first TD if he turns his head earlier he might have a picksix, he's in position but he didn't know the ball was there so he didn't jump.

2nd one again he figured out what was happening his foot just stuck in the grass and he fell down trying to make the cut. Looked bad and he got his ankles broken by the fake, but he was there he just has to make the plays. Had a big hit early and probably got a bit too cocky.

Someone on the game thread blamed him for that pass where the guy nearly scored on the left sideline said the cushion was too big. if you watch the replay, Peterson took Moss in the endzone and that's where Smith wanted to go, he couldn't, so he came off to the underneath guy since he had so much time back there. Peterson then came off Moss and came up and made the tackle.

It was a very similar play to the one where PP jumped the under route and Smith threw over the top to the TE Walker for a 20+ gain. For whatever reason in that coverage PP is being asked to cover a lot of ground. Whoever is underneath there, I think it's Acho, clearly is being asked to do something he can't really do so PP ends up trying to take both guys.

He was very bad last night.

I called the punt return thing during the preseason, everyone is kicking away from him, hanging up thepunts etc. So he's got nowhere to go and is getting frustrated. and what is up with Bethel he either misses the block or gets a flag, for a guy who made the team on ST, he's suddenly forgotten how to play it.

You could see PP was mad at him on the one he got the flag on like why are you even trying to block that guy.

we talking about PP or Tommy Knight, because that's what Peterson looked like last night.

Knight was nowhere near the athlete though. Knight never did figure out how to play the ball in the air though. PP has made some plays but last night he was just awful.

Same thing last year the first game, Crabtree killed him, 2nd time around he shut him down.

I'm not sure what it is, but PP21 is struggling out there. Crabtree totally owned him last night. He may not be up to being put on the opponent's best receiver all night long. I'm a little worried that he is losing confidence, both at CB and at PR. With how bad William Gay is, we need PP to step up and play like he's capable of.

Peterson is not a good CB. His punt return heroics cloaked his deficiencies as a defender. I noticed this last year. 3 years from now people on ASFN will be writing how glad they are he left in free agency.

He has too many wants at one time- He needs to concentrate on making it 10 on 10- not trying to watch the backfield and covering 3 recievers at once. He wasn't even in the same zipcode as his assignment.

Peterson is a starry-eyed kid who is dreaming big, but not learning fast enough on the job. He's far too handsy---will keep getting flagged and he doesn't see the ball fast enough, which in this day and age means a long day at the office for CBs.

Gruden said it well---the other teams have no problem picking on him, even with William Gay on the other side.

Who cares if our freaking CB might be average at worse. Who freaking cares! A post with exclamation points of bold print for a guy who is merely overrated. We do not have a professional OL, it is horrible. The Oline is the problem. I can only dream that we had such an overrated player at one of the tackle positions right now. This focus on a player on defense is mindless when our team is getting beat down by a O line which is utterly pathetic.

I understand your point but come on, how many times can we rant and rave about the same subject? Outside of the birthday greetings, you'd have to work to find any threads with volume posts that don't involve a run down of the problems we have with the guys who are supposed to be protecting our QB and opening holes for our backs.

I'm pretty sure if you took a poll to list the biggest problem players on this team, the first 2 at least would be on the o line. I think most of us would name all 5 offensive lineman and both starting QBs before we took off after any of the defensive players. It's just frustrating to see a guy with so much potential show so little growth especially given the huge national exposure he's been given by ESPN and the NFL Network. It's not his fault that Deion called him elite long before his play warranted but it does open the door for the overrated tag.

I did not know there was a prerequisite which made finding various problems as an excuse to add variety to the mix of complaining about a team because one flaw overrides them LOL

Who appointed you arbiter of what we can talk about on ASFN? :D

You of all people should know about the irritation caused by DBs who can't or won't tackle. I could have sworn I saw the Cardinals practicing with the Texas Longhorns on tackling techniques last week.
