The guy is simply amazing... take a look at the video below and see how close Johnson came to colliding with PP just before the ball lands in his hands! No doubt most other returners would've either called a fair catch, or, would have muffed the punt due to being distracted by Johnson. From where my seats are (section 102), I couldn't see Peterson actually catch the ball. It wasn't until he made the turn that I was able to actually see him... I agree with 82 on this. Peterson is nearly bullet-proof as he stands there waiting for the ball to come down, and this is not just for this one catch. He is always cool as a cucumber when all hell is breaking loose all around him. I have NEVER seen another player so cool in these situations. He checks time after time, diverting his eyes away from the flight of the ball to see where his opponents are, and where the creases are. He is flat out amazing.

The other part that surprised me was the in fake that got him an extra 10-12 yards at the end of the run. He was going to the sideline and you think he'll just run out of bounds and then he jab stepped to the inside the defender bought it and he was able to turn the corner. Just loved how aggressive he was he knew it was his chance to impact the game and he went for it.

No doubt Russ. AND, I can't tell who the Cards player was right next to the guy that PP faked out of his jock, but, that too was a great play by that Cards player for not pushing the Browns dude in the back!! It was close but he peeled off just at the last second!

I was impressed with Steve Tasker discussing the fact that Peterson intentionally misdirected the Browns by pointing to a spot as if he wasn't going to catch the ball.

It's not often an announcer brings good insight to the game that a consistent viewer can't already pick up on, in this case after re-watching the tape you can tell that was a psychological juke move by PP21 that worked. Subtle, but Tasker pointed it out.

yeah funny because didn't he drop the first punt he saw in the preseason? Since then he had one fumble but he caught it clean just lost it on a big pileup.

I grew up idolizing Terry Metcalf, Peterson is a whole different beast about 40 pounds bigger and faster too, but has that same ability to go get the punts. They're different though the first guy never got Metcalf, he didn't have the high end speed that PP does but he was SO elusive. Peterson needs a couple of steps to get up to speed and we have seen him on occasion get taken down by the first guy, but if he gets by that first guy and gets up to speed he's scary good.

Who was that idiot complaining in the preseason he was too important to risk on punt returns.

He is generally fearless.. But he sure fair caught a punt in the SF game that he had no business fair catching.. Nearest defender was like 10 yards away when he caught it and he was around the 30.

Agree with pretty much everything everyone else said. I would add though, that at the beginning of the year, when he was fielding punts inside the 10 or in areas I thought weren't good, when he was doing that I was going insane. I thought it was rookie idiocy--then 14 games later when he does it I don't even blink, I'm actually thinking field that thing and run it back. In my mind, that's how you know a player is going to be great, when he does things you don't think he should, and after succeeding multiple times, you kind of "break the rules" in your own head and allow him to do whatever he wants. I really think that's the hallmark of greatness.

We've all seen Hester run back kicks, but I've never in my life seen a player scan the ball (in the air) then scan the blocking, then scan the ball (in the air, as it's still traveling) and then scan the blocking, and then do it all again. That's insane. PP is a freak of an athlete.

Superb coaching. Nobody comes back from 1-6 without excellent coaching. These guys are rich, after a 1-6 start nothing stops these millionaires from making plans in the Bahamas with bags packed. It's not a euphemism when people say they've packed their bags: they really have, they're rich, they have beautiful wives, nice friends, everything, there's nothing to make them keep playing. This team did, and it's a credit to Whis, totally.

Our team is a bunch of fighters. Can't underestimate that.

Skelton is also big enough to shake off defenders like it aint no thang. With time, his patience will grow and the pick before the TD will happen less, no doubt (a true no sarcasm smilie here). I kept my faith in here during the game, in the chat room, I kept saying he would respond after the pick....some homies in here know what I'm talking about.

I can't argue brother, Skelton looks like one of those QBs that are on their way, even with Cardinal coaching! Kolb does have better stats and a lower looking shelf life, but we paid a lot so we gotta see what's there. Right?

Did anyone read what Pat Shurmur said about the punt return in his post game comments? It was something to the effect of "it looked to us like he waived for a fair catch right before he caught it. That is why so and so (don't remember his gunner's name on the punt coverage that he mentioned) pulled up right before Peterson caught the ball, because he waived for the fair catch."

Don't shoot the messenger but just wandering if anyone else saw this?

That's the young guys working. Veteran teams win championships but like Darkside wrote older guys who are rich and settled will also tend to pack their bags when things go south. But not younger players and we have a bunch of them on defense. A core of guys who aren't making millions and/or still have a lot to prove.
