Am I the only one who wouldn't mind if the Cards took a chance on Arrington?

The rap on Arrington from two teams are as follows-- he is very physically talented, but equally undisciplined.

Coaches simply cant count on him to do what the defensive scheme asks him to do on a consistent basis.

For every highlight reel play, there are three others where his free lancing left a gaping hole in the defense that was exploited.

I understand what the potential drawbacks are. That's why I used the phrase "take a chance."

Jason -- I hear you --

but why have a player on your defense that has shown that he cant be counted on?

I think NY thought that a change of scenery and some Coughlin discipline would change him -- but it didnt

I dont know-- the other factor is that guys coming off achilles injuries take a full year (i.e. all of 2007) of playing before they regain their pre-injury form.

At least put the tag on Big and try and get compensation for him. Don't let him go until there is a viable and definite plan to replace him. It would be intersting to see what Grimm could do for his performance. Ideally I want him to stay at least one more year and then look at a possible long term deal based on his performance at least maybe around midseason.

I'd like the Cards to take a chance on him because as people get older they get wiser. Also, I think Pendergast would recognize the need for Arrington to be more of a "free-lancer" and design defenses that allow him more room to do so. That's what Parcells did with a freelancer that he had by the name of LT.

It's like when you go on a diet. If your diet doesn't allow you to eat ANYTHING you like, you're going to drop the diet all together before too long. But, if your diet allows you to have what you like in moderate amounts, you're more likely to stick to it.

Give Arrington what he wants (freedom to make plays where he sees them) in doses and maybe he'll stick with the program in the plays that call for him to be disciplined.

I'm by no means saying it's fool-proof, but I think it's worth the risk because we have a HUGE hole at LB and Arrington has HUGE upside.

Arrington would have to be an upgrade over Huff.

The Shark

That's what I thought. If the Cards can't find a legitimate solution for the giant hole at WLB (or SLB if they're going to move Dansby over), then they should sign Arrington and draft another guy on the first day. He'll play on a one-year deal on a defense that could make him a star.

I say no to Arrington. I heard on the radio this morning that his nickname is something like" can't get right" as in he can't learn all the plays right. That's pretty bad for a defensive player to not be able to learn all the plays. Brandon Noble was also on and he didn't really have many good things to say about Arrington and they're both PSU boys. Something has got to be up when a guy with all his talent is going to be on his 3rd or 4th team already.

How about Emmons instead? He's a WLB, while Arrington is a SLB.

And a torn pectoral is easier to recover from than a torn Achilles tendon.

No way you take on a speed linebacker with some serious leg injuries like Arrington. I think WLB is a MAJOR problem, but there are more dependable option that would cost about the same.

I think Luke Pettigout will be our man. 1st off he is a Giant and the Cardinals LOVE ex-Giants. Second, I think BIG wants out of Arizona no matter what. Third, Pettigout WANTS to play tackle, and LT at that, so he wouldn't be on Leinart's blind side. While Big WANTS to play guard.
I think BIG or Luke will give us the same results regardless of who is in there.

When has Davis EVER said that...until I see a direct quote from Davis this is all just speculation/rumor/wishful thinking by fanboys. As far as I am concerned its just untrue.

I doubt that very seriously. Him being cut after a non-season like this screams that he's damaged goods. Cato June is gonna get his regardless.

Um, no it doesn't. He would have to receive an injury settlement if that was the case. If they cut him and he was injured, there'd be a story about him filing a grievance.

Ugh.

It is been said, written about, mentioned in many articles, and re-told by this board.

I will not go a research every single thing I state on this board everytime. You want to disprove this then go look it up.

I wrote it based on the multiple sources, valid, and not, that have stated that Big wants to play guard.

yep said, written about, mentioned by nobody named Leonard Davis or even by a quote directly attributed to Leonard Davis. So until it comes directly from the source its speculation.. nothing more.

How about I start one right now....Antrell Rolle believes he is a Safety, he wants to play Safety and won't be happy until he plays Safety. There I wrote that, so its true now.

AT THE SAME TIME?

WOW! Talk about an all-pro.

Leonard Davis or Luke Pettigout ?

I think that is the question here. I think both are over-rated, and under achieving. Both have a lot of false starts too

BUT I think the Cardinals need to have one of the two on the squad by the start of the next season.

Repeating a forum rumour EVEN IN CAPITALS does not make it so. There is no quote or reputable source for this assertion.

Sounds like a guy we sent to the Pro-Bowl last Sunday. :D

it is no use in talking to guys about davis. they bashed him in the past and wanted him gone during the season when there wasn't anybody better to replace him. now all of sudden davis is this spectacular all pro tackle. they claim he was the 3rd best tackle in the nfc according to some book. anybody that has watch davis played knows that he not worth all that money that these boys want to throw at him. pettigout is a better option than davis. barber production was very good. i believe he led in rushing in the first five or six games. then all of sudden coughlin didn't get tiki the ball. it was a big story by mid season. tiki and the rest of the players were talking about it. so was the nfl network. that was before pettigout was injuried. the last time i checked pettigout is one of the main reason why barber been rushing over a thousand yards a season the past 4 season. that is better than what the cardinals runningbacks have been doing. i am not saying spend ten million dollars pettigout, but a look would be nice. someone said it before. "it amazes me how people want to keep undachieveing players.

I would support us taking a chance on Arrington because it's his injuries that have slowed his production not his talent level.

The thing that worries me about Arrington isn't so much the injuries as his difficulty in memorizing the plays or adapting to the system. That said, he'd definitely be an upgrade over Orlando Huff. Would still prefer Adalius Thomas though.

And the Giants are letting him go for what reason?
