Ruby has been dealing. I'm a tad shocked Hale pulled him just now after that infield single got on base. 91 pitches. Oh well. Let's go Clippard!

Edit: sweet, good job Hale :)

'Surprised and glad to see Rubby follow the D-backs instructions of "don't hold back" (pace himself) as a starting Pitcher. Hopefully, he'll hold onto it.

And what a career game for Herrmann. One hit so far this season, then a key RBI early in the game and a 3-run dinger to ice it.

After a quick two outs to start the game, Robbie Ray loaded the bases and left them loaded in a 33 pitch inning. That was surprising.

Thought RR was getting out the the 2nd inning quickly but Goldy makes a rare error to extend it.

That error wasnt Goldys fault. Wagner cut in in front just as he was releasing the ball.

Ray's command hasn't been good this year but prior to today he'd been escaping trouble. It caught up to him.

I saw that too, but Goldy's been playing the Cooler role to date, and it's getting old.
I am curious what you mean by the Cooler role. Are you talking about Goldy's steady demeanor? It is interesting that his MVP competitor Andrew McCutchen is having the same slow start at bat as Goldy.

On his throw to home, it was clear that Goldy was in the motion of throwing when he saw that Wagner was coming right into the path (for which you cannot blame him) and instinctively raised the trajectory of the throw. It was a freak play.

I am concerned about Nick Ahmed. Although he is as nearly perfect in the field as any SS could be, and despite his quick start just as last season, his batting average stands at .226 (just as he finished last year), with a lifetime average of .222. He has established that as his level.

Can we afford to have him in the starting lineup, especially when we have a SS (Gene Segura) playing 2B and leading the league in hits? 'Probably until Pollock returns, freeing up Chris Owings to return to the infield.

And still the boys refuse to quit. Down 2 runs in the bottom of the 12th, they fight back to tie it up again!

Wait - did Hale take Perralta out of the game and move Tomas to right? WTH???
No, the Freight Train, who did not start, had moved to Center much earlier in the game, after he had replaced Drury (who moved to 3B, then back to RF).

I have a feeling that this game, and all the moves required by the players to hang in, will make this an even more cohesive roster, especially the starting Pitching staff.

Our #1 and #3 starting Pitchers were pinch hitters. Our #2 starter was a pinch runner, left fielder (made a good play) and final hitter of the game. Etc., etc.

It doesn't bother me that we lost this game. I loved the way we kept coming back. Until the 13th inning.
