She looked alot like her, but I thought KEira was more "milky" :)

Her mouth was quite a bit smaller than Portman's big ol' maw.

Don't you think Portman's good looking?

Keira Knightly is actually the lead British soccer girl in 'Bend it Like Beckham', which was an excellent film. I picked that up right off, and when I checked the names in the two films, they matched. Very beautiful and very young. And she looks a lot less like Natalie Portman in 'Beckham'.

Nope, I guess I insinuated it. My mistake. She looks so much like Natalie, she played her look-alike in Phantom Menace. When I look back at that film, it is very hard to tell the difference between the two of them.

Either way, they are both very HOT! :D

I saw it this weekend and loved it. Very entertaining.

Knightley was Unbelievably Hot. I couldn't keep my eyes off her either.

Amen to that, brutha! :D

Keira pretty much dominated every frame she was in--the camera sure loves her! :D

I thought her looks, vocal patterns and mannerisms were just like Winona Ryder. In fact I had to wait for the end credits to make sure it wasn't Winona. :) Great special effects and Depp was outstanding. I felt the movie dragged in a few places, but overall one of the best I've seen.

By the way, you probably know this, but she played Portman's double in Phantom Menace.

What?
OK something that has been bugging me about this movie.

If Sparrows father stole the coin how could he die? The other pirates obviously spent the money and still the curse didn't follow the recipient but the thief. How does this work? And how could Jacks father die? He stole the coin and even though he sent it to his son the curse should have applied to him directly.

Petty I know but the wife and I have been trying to figure this out to no avail. Let's see what you can come up with.

So how pathetic is my life? Wait, don't answer that...So yesterday made it the third viewing of this movie in as many weeks. This movie is just as funny - if not more so - the multiple times I've seen it. Depp is pure genuis in this film. Watching it several times I've picked up on more and more subtleties of his acting and mannerism - he does so much with that character, especially when he's not speaking and he's not the main focal point on the screen (when he's in the background). I think I laughed harder on this thrid viewing than I did the first.

I think you mean Orlando Bloom's character's father, not Captain Jack Sparrow's father.

***************Spoilers********************

The father died because the curse had not yet set in. Captain Barbossa said that in one sequence. Remember, the curse didn't just set in. It started taking them slowly over time, starting with food and drink. He sent the gold away when the curse first started, so they killed him.

And the person who stole the gold is the one who is cursed. Bloom's character couldn't be cursed because he never stole it. His was the last remaining BLOOD of the guy who stole it, though so it was his that was needed to break the curse.

Yes, My mistake I did mean Blooms character. So he was killed before the curse took effect? I can live with that. Thanks.

Ok supposedly Bootstrap Turner was a pirate. He partook in the stealing and spending of the gold as evidenced by the piece he took and sent to his son. So inevitably he should have been cursed as well and unable to have been killed correct?

So what I dont get is why was he dead?

They said, in the movie, before the curse had it's effect, while they were still spending the gold, they killed him. That's why Barbossa said it was so ironic they killed him when they ended up needing his blood.

My wife and I saw this last night (Open Range was sold out)and it was great. I have never been a Depp fan but he was completely awesome. Special effects were incredible.

Couple of trailers shown looked good as well:

Radio - Ed Harris is one of my favorite actors

Last Samurai - Cruise is ok but the battle scenes look amazing

Disney will set sail for a second installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio will pen the continuing adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp. Director Gore Verbinski is expected to return, as well as Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley.

Excellent - I figured that they might do that. I hope it turns out well. :)

I had Freddy vs. Jason, but wasn't sure of it...ugh. H$40+ adjust. Still I made about 300k on it before it halted.

I had Open Range (+H$14 adjust) and have Pirates 2 (+H$13 or so).

Up 1.3 million today, about to pass $50 million.

I love that there will be another Pirates, but...what's the stinking story line going to be? It's not like it was left very open for a sequel.

Sure there is - they British have given Sparrow a 24 hour head start - still haven't plenty of room for Orlando's character to Bloom (sorry, I couldn't resist). :D

I still think that there is plenty to do. It would be better perhaps if they just made another Pirates independent of this one though - kind of like the Indiana Jones movies. The Mummy tried to extend the story and ended up killing the franchise - imo.

Rachel Weisz reportedly turned down $10 million to do Mummy 3.

That was probably a smart move since Mummy 2 sucked.
