And last I checked there weren't many Rams roaming around the streets of St. Louis either.

Funny thing is - I looked through my Uncle's postcard collection after he passed away. There were numerous Arizona postcards with cacti and...CARDINALS on them. I'm talking from the 60's and 70's. I don't know how many rams there really are near St. Louis, but we do have cardinals in Az.

OK. That's fair. I got hooked on the Cards when they were in St. Louis. I was a younin' living in Louisville and my dad was a big Redskin fan (he used to live in Virginia). In my teens, every year my family would drive to St. Louis to see the Cards play the Skins. We'd get 2nd row end zone seats. It was so exciting. I loved everything about being in an NFL stadium - talking with other fans, watching the players warm-up, the food, the game, the scoreboard, everything. And before long I loved the Cardinals. (Plus, I'd go to all the Louisville Cardinals games so I had a double whammy of Cardinals). The bird helmet became an icon that for some reason still brings me pleasure just to look at. Maybe in a way it takes me back to those family outings at the stadium.
Thanks River!
I think it's cool that you still follow "your" team wherever they move. For the record...I don't dislike the bird at all. And the uni's are nice. I just have this thing about "geographly out of place" things. They bug the hell out of me. For example...My friend's sister used to always say, "we're going UP to Texas next weekend." We lived Kansas at the time. How can you go "up" to Texas? Crap like that bugs me. Look at a MAP damn-it!!! :)

Plus I do architectural design, so I have "matching" and "blending" things together issues to consider. ARRGGGHHH!!!

While not common in this region, the Northern Cardinal or cardinalis cardinalis has been steadily increasing its range in the Southwestern United States. There is a large population along the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and they have been spotted as far west as California. I myself saw one when I lived in Tucson.

So don't let it get to you. The mascot isn't really that out of place.
