His health can't be downplayed. If we go after him and we can't play, that could possibly set our franchise back by quite a bit.

Imagine if he is cut and try we go after him. Can we reel him in before Kolb gets his bonus? What if we don't have Peyton locked down before Kolb's bonus, do we cut him anyway in the hopes that he signs? What if we do get Peyton to agree to terms, cut Kolb, but then fails the physical? Time is a big factor since we have to be rid of Kolb's bonus and Peyton healthy enough to pass a physical in March. Hell, could Graves even work fast enough to get a contract hammered out in that time?

I'd like to have a healthy Manning, but I think in all likelihood our starting 2012 QB is already on the roster.

I'm no contract lawyer, but I'd bet you could put in a bonus structure that paid him a (relatively) modest amount up front and kicked in with some escalators as he plays his snaps in games.

At this point I don't think he's going to get an HUGE upfront payday from anyone -- it'll still be big, but not record-setting big. But he could make a lot of money on the back end in the second half of the season if he stays healthy.
