I think he will go to Denver personally. No young QB to worry about. An offense set up to run the ball and play defense. Good defensive personnel. Big ownership pockets. He may be the biggest splash after Payton and Denver wants a big splash.

Denver is a much more unattractive job than we even are. He might not have to worry about a young QB, but he would have to worry about an over-the-hill QB whose contract is actually much worse than Kyler’s at this very moment. At least with Kyler, he’s still young. There’s also the Mahomes & Herbert factor.

I think there’s zero chance in hell he goes there.

That said, I think he’s a pipe dream. Would be shocked if he came over to work for a wretched franchise with so much uncertainty at QB, combined with a contract that’s an anchor on the cap the next couple years.

I don't believe there are many attractive jobs as of right now.

Carolina likely keeps Wilks or goes offense as it is desperate for a young QB.

Indy is another wild card as they have a top 5 pick but will likely need to move up for a QB. Their GM is good but they have a crazy owner. Again, pairing a young QB with a defensive coach has not generally turned out well.

Denver has new ownership and a respected GM. Yes, Russ was awful this year and that may be a huge turn off. I just think they are open to a defensive coach in a market that I don't believe will have a ton of teams interested.

Houston, Arizona...who knows what else pops up.

I actually believe this is a fairly attractive job. They got a good amount of good pieces at the right spots. They just need to trade up for a QB.

Ballard is massively overrated. His luster as a “good GM” has certainly worn off by a lot of people. I think they’re talent-deficient in alot of non-QB spots as well.


As for us, depends if Bidwill makes the right move regarding GM. My dream is Bidwill being smart & going for Adam Peters as GM then Peters can bring Ryans with him.

One thing Denver now has to offer Payton is an owner with the deepest pockets in the NFL. They can get a new GM and Payton could influence who that is. There is a world of difference between the Georgia Frontierre Rams and the Stan Kroenke Rams, so that is where my thoughts come from.

I get the impression they are looking for a lifestyle as much as anything and I don't see them freezing their ass off in Colorado winters.

Dude. Denver is one of the most livable cities in the country.

If she wanted to be a Real Housewife or something, that's one thing. That's why Carmelo Anthony and Lala had to get out of Denver. But Denver isn't Detroit or Green Bay or Tampa.

I think Mike makes all sorts of suggestions, comments, etc -- which with a stronger GM wouldn't be a problem (and well within the purview of an owner). A secure GM (or someone like Arians) simply tells him no and or explains why it goes the other way.

my speculation is that a post-dui insecure Keim treated Mike's suggestions or comments like orders in order to stay in the good graces / insulate himself from criticism.

Mike's issue he needed to recognize that. Certainly you cant be "friends" with someone who works for you.

Payton is animated on the sidelines. He works the refs and interacts with the players continuously. He appears personally invested in every play, showing great passion, not cold disinterest. There’s quite a bit more but I’d settle for just this much, but sadly he’s not coming!

Denver vs Phoenix lifestyle is a preference choice so I guess that depends on the Payton’s specific cup of tea.

Denver has a better ownership setup, but man that Russ contract and draft pick compensation is rough. Despite what others tell ya we have a pretty good opening here. Kyler is not exactly Mr. Popular but Russ is hated significantly more around the league.

Depending on how much control a coach desires, I would actually find Indy a nice place to go solely because I think they have a great scouting department removed from the crazy owner
