I honestly don't know how the chemistry would work. It could really blow up in our face. But if it weren't for the fact that Kobe's such a scumbag, it would be hard to turn down the right deal. He is that good.
The question no one seems to be asking is whether Kobe would prefer the Suns? If he forces a deal, he can all but choose the team due to his ability to kill it with not only his trade veto but also his trade kicker.
Would he pick the Suns? Three years ago the answer was no (he was given a chance and turned the Suns down). What he sees now is:
- Best PG in the NBA
- An up tempo offense that would get him a lot more shooting opportunties (but a lower percentage of the team's shots)
- A reliable low post threat to keep teams from doubling him all the time
- Joining a team that was only suspension from the beating the team likely to win the championship
- A chance to go into the playoffs without having to face Raja
Chicago may have more trading pieces, but they are not close to be a championship team right now.
IMHO, the chances of Kobe leaving LA are very very low. But if he wanted to move, Phoenix could very well be his preferred destination.
