The Cards played on the east at 1pm, AGAIN(I don't know why they don't have west coast teams play 4) against a decent team playing their home opener and probably should have won the game. Factor in 2 of the Cards best players, Wahington and LSH were out, and it wasn't all that bad. Don't discount missing LSH. His covergae on punts is tremendous and likely limits their effective returns. THe Cards got exactly zero calls from the refs, even though it didn't hurt,I would still like to know how Rhodes got an unsportsmanlike conduct out of all that. And, pretty much everything went Washington's way yet the Cards were a 4th down play from winning a road game. Heck, the could still win if Stuckey holds onto the ball. No loss is fun but this loss is not disheartening to me at all.
Wells ran well when given the chance
Kolb continues to show big play ability
Fitz will continue to be a beast
Roberts had a drop but looked good
Campbell played another solid game
TE's continue to be effective
I thought Jefferson improved
Rhodes played a better game

From what I have seen, the Cards are still favorites to win the NFCW and that's pretty good in a transition year.

This offensive staff does know how to draw up a pass play. Kolb is averaging over 8 yards per attempt despite losing the strike zone for long stretches of time. Defenses coming up to speed or whatever, our receivers are finding huge holes in zones and sitting WIDE open. That's good work.

Campbell needs to get paid soon. He's scheme-flexible and has like 4 blocked field goals as well as being a good run defender. I know that he got gas for needed to make more of an impact from Urban, but it's possible he's just playing within scheme.

Beanie reminds me a lot of another OSU running back: Robert Smith (formerly of the Vikings). I don't think that Beanie's ever going to be as physical as I want him to be, and it's going to limit his number of long runs. But he just consistently gets needed yardage. He needs to get into the early game plan.

CBus, all good points. Let's not forget the tipped pass just b4 the winning fg. We were within inches of intercepting it & ending the game. It's too bad we didn't see you yesterday. Maybe Baltimore? The biggest issue with this team is getting the D off the field. The Skins had the ball for almost 40 minutes!! We had great seats & I had a nice panoramic view of the field. The Skins had a nice gameplan for us & spread us out to the point where we couldn't stop the run either. Looking back, I was amazed that we kept it as close as we did. Our D is in the middle of a Perfect Storm, which is misery for us right now. First & foremost, we're implementing a new scheme without the benefit of a normal preseason. Secondly, we don't have the personnel at the OLB position to make this scheme viable. Lastly, our secondary has an aging veteran at safety who couldn't cover me & young, inexperienced corners. Can we get better, yes, but not leaps & bounds better. Horton has no choice but to continue to play balls to the walls & hope that we can create turnovers to offset teams moving up & down the field against us.

Our offense is being crippled by our tackles not being able to keep anyone off Kolb. Unless that improves, defenses will attack Kolb relentlessly. That's why our draw to beanie worked so well yesterday. It was awesome to see Kolb go up top & hit Fitz, but we can't live off that. I love what I see with Kolb & Beanie ran well, although he did fall down a few more times without being touched. I was watching Kolb through binoculars & he is fiery, yet cool under pressure. Now I know why Whiz liked this guy. He has the same type of onfield demeanor as Warner. I love the fact that he is only 25. I think the Eagles will rue the day they traded this guy. Fix the tackle position & this offense can be special.

I agree that we can still win the NFCW, but we'll need to go into Seattle next week & strike fast. We can't let that crowd get loud. BTW, the officiating again appeared horrendous in Washington. I can't see the plays close up & personal, but we were flagged 10 times, yet the Skins had 3 meaningless five-yarders. Old man Bidwill must be a SOB, because the NFL officials have been screwing this franchise for the last 50 years!!!!!!!

Oy... the mouth of Sauron's taking him to task this early in the season, huh? Well, then the track is being laid already for losing another guy who's first contract runs out. might as well kiss his ass goodbye.

Robert Smith's a good comparison. Dude needs to get the rock.

They are basically hyping up his replacement (David Carter)

I agree with a lot of this. Especially the part about this loss not being disheartening.

Oh, and by the way, that was not Washington's home opener.

But it sure is disappointing. I felt like I was watching the early season baseball Cardinals who kept blowing leads and now those 8th and 9th inning losses are coming back to haunt them.

How many Cardinal plays (offense, defense & ST) have been for more than 20-yards in 2 games vs. all of last year?

I don't know the answer but will bet that our home run capability has improved at least threefold.

I also feel comfortable with Kolb.

Biggest disappointment is Stuckey (whom we supposedly brought in because his veteran experience would deliver big plays at crunch time, but instead put the ball on the ground at the critical point in the game).

Guy who makes me most uncomfortable: Brandon Keith.

http://blog.azcardinals.com/2011/09/18/redskins-aftermath-2/

That’s three field-goal blocks for Calais Campbell in his career. Having a 6-foot-8 weapon in the middle there is crucial. Campbell needs to make more of an impact on defense, however.

Like with Breaston, it may be time for Cardinals fans to imagine a world where Calais Campbell reaches free agency and plays for someone else (can you imagine him at DE in the Dallas or Houston one-gap 3-4)? We can't pay him more than we paid Dockett, but he's probably worth as much for our scheme.

Positives from yesterday... Kevin Kolb survived.

Our O-line is terrible. We need to draft 6 offensive linemen next year, 4 tackles 1 G and 1 C.

People complain about #2 wr, but Kolb doesn't even have time to get to his 2nd or 3rd read on a lot of these plays. Plus, I think Kolb might be good enough to get the job done with what we have.

Seriously. People who complain about the #2 WR need to look around the NFL.

Malcolm Floyd (Antonio Gates)
Jeremy Maclin
Kevin Walter
Pierre Garcon
Mario Manningham
Lance Moore
Dez Bryant
Deion Branch
Donald Driver
Louis Murphy

Those are the #2 WRs for the top 10 passing offenses in 2010. Bryant was 4th on his team in receptions. Maybe only Maclin and Branch are better than what we have.

Once our guys get some passes sent their way (and capitalize on them), it'll draw attention away from Fitz.

More positives. Our Defense/ST is still making big plays even if they still can't make the little ones. Two INTs and an blocked FG. And they're still hanging tough in the redzone.

Very good stuff Cbus and K9!

Adding to Duck's post on the D, we are in the top10 in fewest points allowed (Technically 11th but we are only .5 pts behind two teams tied for 10th and I'm using CC's thought process).

I fully expected us to lose based on the east coast travel, Shanahan's & Hasslett's 2nd yr getting his system installed, and our lack of time with all the new key players and D scheme etc.

I like Kolbs attitude, leadership and toughness. Very cool to see the big plays and our TE's being used.

Add one elite pass rusher and the D will be more then fine.

Add a legit LT and the O will be more then fine.
I expect CC to be re-signed during the course of this season.

While I think that Campbell still needs to improve, he has shown to be a very big asset along the defensive line. As much as I realize that the 3-4 defense deemphasizes d linemen, I think that Campbell's age in relation to Dockett's age will lead to the Cardinals re-signing Campbell. Even though the Steelers don't traditionally spend money on d linemen, the drafted both Hampton and Ziggy Hood in the first round, and locked up Aaron Smith years ago to keep a solid defensive line.
