Here's a little list of possible trades of Banks to teams needing PG's....AND I KNOW a lot of these are a bit out there, BUT instead of having a crap load of threads about trades, I figured I'd wrap up the league as trade partners about Banks, since he's the most likely to be moved.

Atlanta: Banks for Salim Stoudamire or Lorenzen Wright

Boston: Banks for one or combo of West, Rondo, Green, Kandi, Allen

Philly: Banks and Suns or Cavs pick for Philly's 1st round pick

Cleveland: Banks for Pavlovic and one of Pollard/Newble/Wesley

Detroit: Banks and filler for Nazr OR Banks for one of Davis/Hunter/Murray

Indiana: Banks and Suns pick for Diogu OR Banks for Armstrong, Harrison, & McLoud

Charlotte: Banks for Knight

Miami: Banks and James Jones for Posey and Kapono

Orlando: Banks for one of Arroyo/Garrity/Dooling/Bogans/Reddick/Nelson/Diener

Houston: Banks for one of Wells/Snyder

Memphis: Banks for one of Stoudamire/Atkins

Denver: Banks for one of Najera/Dermarr Johnson

Minnesota: Banks for one of Hassell/Madsen/McCants/Reed

Portland: Banks for one of Dixon/Dickau/Jack/Webster

Seattle: Banks, James Jones and Cavs pick and Suns pick for Ridnour

Lakers: Banks for Mihm OR Banks for McKie and Cook

Sacramento: Banks and Kurt Thomas for Williamson and Salmons

Sorry, I meant the Philly pick via Denver (the one from the AI trade)

I'd cry tears of joy if any of these trades were even DISCUSSED.

hmm, stoudamire is interesting . . . his value is relatively low and he would likely provide some good insurance behind nash. and with memphis wanting to start over . . . i never thought of him. what's his contract like?

He's paid about $400-600k more per year but for 2 less years.

Personnal, I'd rather have Atkins than Stoudamire

3 years $4M and he could be traded straight up for Banks but they are trying to run the suns system so if Banks can't run it here I don't know why they would think he could in Memphis.

Starting versus off the bench #1. Plus they are basically in rebuild mode right now. Hence, the possible move of Gasol.

The Denver and Cleveland picks will likely not be too far apart from each other, so we'd basically be saying "Just take Banks off our hands". I'm not a Banks fan, but we should at least be able to get something more than just dumping his salary...

One rumor mentioned on ESPNews is Marcus Banks to Cleveland for Damon Jones

:|

It would be surprising, because Damon Jones is Lebron's best friend on the team, and Jones's leadership is also important for the Cavs. Banks would be a perfect fit for them though.

even more surprising considering Damon has an even crappier shot than Banks. if we are looking for shooters, then Damon is last on that list.

He is a career 39% 3pt shooter though, so I am sure that if there was intrest in him that would be the reason why.

Here's the latest from Chris Sheridan from ESPN on Banks.....

Sheridan's latest blog over at ESPN.com

Quote: There was also talk that a fourth team was trying to get involved, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was Phoenix. I'm told the Suns and Cavaliers have discussed a Marcus Banks-Damon Jones trade as a fallback in the event a Bibby deal fell through. There also was a possibility Banks could go to Sacramento in a four-way Cleveland-Sacramento-Phoenix-Minnesota deal, with the Kings getting one of the two spare No. 1 picks the Suns have at their disposal (their own and Cleveland's). The third No. 1 pick Phoenix owns is a pick owed by Atlanta for the Joe Johnson trade. It is top-three protected in 2007 and unprotected in 2008, and is virtually untouchable.

So what would the Suns get in this possible deal?

I'm not sure what the first rounder is for in the four team trade. If it's for Damon Jones, then that seems pretty dumb to me. But I can't figure out who they would be willing to give up a first rounder with Banks for, unless it was a small expiring deal and a young player like Rashad McCants.

The Suns would get:

An Ampeg B1510 bass cabinet.
A black leather motorcycle jacket.
a little mason jar of killah hydro.
a full service massage.
my mortgage paid off.
a pony keg of Konig Ludwig Hefe Weizen.

Oh wait - I thought I would get to trade him.

The reality is the Suns are going to have to take on a "bad contract" in order to get rid of theirs.

Other teams realize that Banks is a skilled player who is not making that much money. He is just not a good fit in Phoenix. He'd be well worth his contract in Cleveland, which is a team dying more for talent than they are for saving money. LeBron sells tickets, they just need to get some skilled players around them. Marcus Banks is a much better player than Eric Snow.

The way it looks to me is that if the Suns do deal Banks, they will do so only to unload his contract (possibly by getting an expiring contract in return) and it will cost them one of their first round picks. Losing that pick may hurt our chance of being able to move up in the draft. There seems to be some interest in Banks, but no team will be willing to give up a player the Suns might actually use if they know that the Suns will be more than happy to let Banks go for nothing and even willing to throw in a pick for good measure.

The most obvious problem with Banks is that he is an awful three point shooter this season. Last year he shot 36.4%, but is shooting only 11.5% for three this season. Take away his 3 for 26 for three and he's shooting 48.7% on other shots, but the three point shooting drops his overall average to 43.2%.

The bigger problem is that he is not a great distributor. He's got the speed, but lacks the vision and quick decision making. It may be that he will pick this up, but right now he's not equiped to play the point.

BTW, Chucky Atkins is listed by Hoopshype as having a one year, $3 million contract. They say he's good in the open court but is more of a shoot first type PG. He's shooting 39% for three this season.
