Jeff: Good points. I think the three fastest risers in this draft are: DE/OLB Shawne Merriman, DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware and WR Troy Williamson.
What happens is...and this has happened with Houston before...they have their sights on Ware...who was a safe and sure pick at #13 when the draft process started...but suddenly they hear that others like the Cowboys in front of them are showing interest in Ware as well...and they like Ware so much that if they can get the LT they need in Shelton...and move up to draft Ware, they will give up their #47 to do it.
Romeo Crennell needs playmakers on his defense...he is switching to the 3-4. Shawne Merriman is the edge player he needs...and is a better fit at 3-4 OLB than Ware. Merriman is a better pass rusher than Derrick Johnson. I just think Merriman is made to order for the Browns.
The only spot I am a little unsure of is what Tampa Bay will do, if Alex Smith indeed goes #1 to SF...as most of the high profile pundits are now projecting. Is Gruden as equally enamored with Aaron Rodgers? If so, I think he'll take Rodgers at #5, provided he's there. Yet, I can also see Gruden salivating over the prospect of tabbing Cadillac Williams or Cedric Benson with that pick, if BOTH the WRs he likes, Edwards and Mike Williams are off the board...which is likely to be the case. I think Gruden's board probably looks like this:
1. QB Smith
2. WR Edwards
3. WR Williams
4. tie: QB Rodgers, RB Williams, RB Benson
