Random order

1. The three things defensive coordinators usually try to achieve are: stop the run, apply pressure on the passer without having to blitz much, and create turnovers.

1a corollary. Pendergast has us 8th in giving up run yds per game and 10th in ypc run defense. We rarely blitz, get good pressure with 4 or 5 rushers and rank 11th in sacks. We rank #1 in the NFL in getting turnovers with 23.

3. Pendergast gets ripped by some every game for rushing only 3 and playing prevent defense. Last week was no exception even though against Seattle we rushed 3 only one time and it was in the first half.

4. Skipping a bunch of stats details I've been pouring over the last two hours, we are better than the Giants are against the run in almost every category and having faced equal quality backs and nearly identical number of total carries. Feel free to disbelieve. I don't have the time to back this up so I won't bother to argue if you dissent.

5. In overall offense/defense match-up, their advantages are both in passing: Statistically, in almost every category, the Giants defense stops the pass better than we do. And statistically, their offense looks to be better able to pass against us than we against them. Again, feel free to dissent. I won't argue.

6. In items 4 and 5 above, my opinions differ from all others I've seen yet. So be it.

7. Historical stats often mean nothing in match-ups.

8. Teams are always improving or regressing. At this time last year, the Giants were not the Giants who won the Super Bowl. We are not yet the team we hope we will be by week 16.

9. If Laboy and Haggans cannot play, I have no idea how we will compensate but it will be interesting to see. Life is tough for all in the NFL. If that kills us, too bad.

10. I think we will run surprisingly well against the Giants.

11. I have no real feel for the outcome of this game so have made no prediction in the prediction thread. The game means more to us than it does to them, I think.

12. At 80 degrees predicted temp at kickoff time, the roof should be closed. Good for us.

13. Have we had our psychological breakthrough games? At Carolina and at Seattle? If so, we will beat the Giants. If not, we won't.

14. I believe Plaxico Burress is faking injury again, pouting. If Tom Couglan plays him anyway, it means he believes this game will be hard to win and wants to give his team every edge possible. If Burress sits in punishment, the game becomes even more unpredictable.

15. The 49ers might beat Dallas. Yes indeed.

16. We gave up 18 sacks in 386 attempts for a 4.66% sack rate. Giants gave up 12 sacks in 292 attempts for a 4.1% sack rate. Both threw 7 picks. Both teams protect well against the sack and sack the opponent well. But as I wrote earlier, edge to them in both categories.

17. New Thai restaurant opened in Glendale. I'll be there in one hour, wearing Cards gear, hoisting brews to us.

OT: Location on the Thai restaurant?

Going to be a tough game, my gut tells me we lost this one.

Giants are tough on OL, DL, RB and even their WR are above average.

Great write up again.

So, do you agree or disagree? Not sure what you are trying to imply here. Me - I hate prevent D... because it has never seemed to work for us but he keeps going to it.

So, this Skkorpianism implies we will win the super bowl this year...:D

Thai restaurant is called Skahara and it's on 83rd ave. just south of Bell Rd. in that huge Arrowhead restaurant complex. Got a great write-up in the paper. Autentic spicy Thai with a side benfit of a lot of wines available by the glass. Been open only about a week.

Booked solid for tonight.

Points being -- I hate the prevent too but Pendergast is doing it less and less as the season goes on and people are not realizing it. He actually is adjusting.

Sounds good. Wish I could join you but heading to the Spurs game...you and I will both end up with heartburn tonight!

I have seen all the same stat Skkorp and you are dead on--

I think the Giants are good --- but I dont think the gap is as large as many in the media seem to think.

The Giants should be worried. They should be VERY worried. We are no longer a team vulnerable because of our shortcomings. We are a formidable team that excels because of what we CAN do.

If the Giants can't stop us, we will win. If we can't stop the Giants, we could still win.
I do know this. If we have the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win, we will win.

It may very well come down to who has the ball last.

I never dream about the Cardinals... Twice in the last week the Cards were coming off the field in high spirits after playing the Giants!!! I never saw a score and the first dream the Giants turned into the Cowboys as they walked off field...

I have no idea what it means other than I feel good about my Cardinals!!!

Very good chance for the Cards to win this game but Warner has got to be sharp. As a lifelong Giants fan, I know first hand that if he's hit and pressured, he tends to make mental mistakes. He has a tendancy to get rattled.

That said, he's having an MVP-type season and if he's on tomorrow, ther's a very good chance the Cards make a statement and beat my Giants.

Welcome and I agree with your comments, however, as a lifelong Card fan, I've seen Eli get rattled when he is hit and pressured also. Sometimes you don't even have to rush Kurt, he can find and hit the open defender all by himself. But not so much this year. Go Cards! :)

Totally fair point, and you're right, Eli does tend to get rattled and make foolish mistakes when he gets hit. The Giants line has done an amazing job of keeping the pressure off him so far this year, hope that continues on Sunday.

I'm really excited about this game because it will give the Giants secondary the opportunity to go up against one of the best offenses in the league. The Giants have played tough games (Steelers, 'Skins, Eagles) but most not at full strength on the offensive side of the ball and nothing like the passing attack the Cardinals posess.

Welcome. If both teams play up to their capabilities it could be the Game of the Year.
It really comes down to not letting your opponent get into their game. You guys don't want to let Warner get on a role and we certainly don't want to see you guys ripping off 7 and 8 yard runs.
The best thing about it is that we actually are playing a game that is considered high profile. I guess thats what comes with winning.
Here's to a good game and no injuries.
