Watching Rivers and Eli Manning it occurred to me that while neither are the finished article, they're both maturing and improving. It's taken time though and been 3 years in the making and a reason why i think it was the right call not to panic and instead to make Leinart our starting QB in 2008

Rivers is maturing? I hadnt noticed as he went out of his way to taunt the RCA Dome faithful after the game.

You mean the fans that were cheering for his injury when he was walking to the locker room?

Oh, I see. Tit for tat. I'm surprised we don't see more of that from these professionals. I mean, they have feelings, too. :sarcasm:

If that upsets him he's going to go Ryan Leaf on the argers in no time. He needs to put on his big-boy panties and be a professional.

BTW, What did Cutler do to him when Rivers taunted him?

Anybody who believes that Leinart is going to be a perfect QB next year is kidding themselves. There will be growing pains to live with but he does have all the tools needed to be a very good QB.
There is no teacher like experience. That and only that will allow him to grow into what we are all hoping for.

Here is a sure bet. We will be disputing the QB issue throughout the entire year of 2008.
There will be some that will call for his benching after his first pick.
There will be some that will be ready to annoint him the next Tom Brady after his first great game.
There will be some who will never back him'
And there will be some who will always back him.

Also, at least Rivers and Eli lead their teams to the playoffs.

Wow slow down there spanky.

I'm not defending Rivers, I'm slamming the jerkoffs at the RCA dome.

Next year will really be year 2 for Leinart.
I'm so tired of hearing this. We heard it with McCown forever and a day, too.

It's not. He's a third-year QB. He'll have some growng pains. He'll have his ups and downs, but hopefully the downs will decrease in number and the ups will increase.

Why are you addressing my right hand?

Sorry. I sounded like you were defending him. Rivers has matured as a QB, but seems to have regressed as a person. I seem to remember a kid coming out of school that seemed matured beyond his years, but I certainly don't see that anymore.

Yeah? So Leinart started 4 games into the season last year and was out after 3rd game this year. How can you compare McCown to Leinart???McCown and Leinart are two completely QB's.

I'm not compring the two, I'm saying we heard this with him, too.

You don't count your years in the NFL by the number of starts. You count them in years. Next year, Leinart will have been in the league for 3 of them.

No. He needs to give it right back to those 35 year old executives from Fortune 1000 companies that were yelling at him.

I think it'd be great to see more players going up into the stands after the fans.

But then I LOVE it when the guys with 2 goals, 3 assists, and 254 penalty minutes enter the hockey games too.

Totally agree. I like my quarterback with a little sauce to him. I like that Phillip gets in guys faces and has moxie to give it back to fans and opposing players who want to mix it up with him.

I bet you his teammates like it too.

Literally, yes. But effectively, you got to be playing to be gaining experiece for the "number of years in the nfl".

That doesn't apply to QBs. They seem to learn just as much sitting and watching as they do playing.

From all reports, Leinart has already had lots of up's and downs's.

Then we should expect the exact same leinart as when he broke his shoulder? Or, should we expect a guy who by all accounts has really put in his time and learned how to be a pro while sitting out?

Should a 10 year vet who's never started a game play like a 22-year old rookie starting his first NFL game?

Experience -- no matter where you get it, on the game field, practice field, film room or locker room -- counts.

True but there's nothing really like actual playing time for experience. I would guess we'll somewhere in between the Leinart who broke his shoulder and the guy who supposedly learned how to be a pro while sitting out. I think he'll be erratic the first couple games and then really come on in the latter 2/3's of the year.
