In watching some of the replays from this season it looks to me like Wells gets tripped up very easily. He's tough as nails when hit high but if a defender so much as slaps his foot down he goes.

Could it be that he has too high a center of gravity? Needs to run a little lower? Lacks good balance.

Also I noted that the so called elite running backs all seem to play for teams that are run oriented. With offenses designed for the run game and offensive lines that are run blockers first, pass blockers second and keep running the ball at 3 yards a pop until their back breaks one for 60.

Meanwhile the passing teams like the Cards and Colts seem to have so called mid level running backs who run the ball for 4 yards a pop and quit running mid way through the second quarter regardless of the score.

So is it the chicken or the egg? Chris Johnson and AP are elite because they play for running teams while Beanie Wells and Joseph Addai are average because they don't or are the Titans and Vikings running teams because they have elite RBs?

I have noticed this as well. It seems any low contact and he goes down. I dont have the ability to replay but I have wondered if he is maybe taking lower steps trying to be more able to cut. Not sure but it definetly has been a topic here at my house on game days.

I gave you an answer to this question the very first practice I ever reported on him.

I told you how skinny his legs are and especially his ankles. Was about laughed off the board.

You almost get laughed off the board no matter what you post.

:D

Seriously though I don't remember it being a problem last year. Fortunately NFL rewind has the games from 2009. So I'll take a look at some of them.

He has been losing his footing and slipping like that since day 1.

Getting NFL rewind was about the best $50 I ever spent on NFL football. Not only do you get the entire broadcast of the game but they also have a pull down with descriptions of every play so that you can jump from one to the other.

For instance if you want to focus on Steve Breaston you can simply scroll down until you see a play that says pass short left to Breaston for 7 yards and click watch and skip to that play. Then scroll to the next play that involved Stevie without having to watch everything in between.

They also have all the games from the previous season so that, for example, if you need a little bump in the AM before work you can watch some of the Vikings game from last year.

Dual monitor at work with the game on one and work on the other. Cardinal football heaven.

There were whispers when he was a Buckeye that he was a pu$$.

Which is why he went #31 instead of top 10 like he should have. Last season was clearly a mirage for Beanie, I was a Beanie fan but we are now seeing why nearly every team passed on him.

I think Beanie will get a ton of carries in the Seahawks game. He needs to produce or quit bitchin. That Qwest crowd can only be silenced by long clock winding drives.

Now that's just your anti-Beanie bias talking there. He definitely ran tougher last year than he has so far this year. My guess is that his knee is still bothering him, or that he's worried about it still.

Nah, it is a fact. I noticed it last year as well. Beanie has poor feet and balance when he runs which is why he gets tripped up by ankle tackles a lot. Now, this is a totally correctable trait, and it's main cause is that Wells runs with his chest over his toes rather than his nose over his toes. This forward lean causes him to be unbalanced when he runs which makes him susceptible to being tripped up by ankle tackles.

Please note that I am a huge Beanie Wells supporter as well.

I don't see the correlation.

Just because he gets tripped up easily doesn't mean he's a wuss. The guy has done some serious bulldozing of defenders since he's been in Arizona.

Players get into habits or have balance problems like Chopper pointed out. Plummer in his early years used to duck his head when he'd scramble so couldn't see to throw downfield on the run. That was corrected eventually.

Thats a really good point. You'll see other backs carry with a more upright stance. I think Beanie was a lil anxious and was lil gimpy last week. Gimpy I am not so sure about because he got better towards the end of the game.

I only wish he was as durable as higher drafted Knowshon Moreno :mulli:.

Just watched some of the Cards v Vikings game from '09 and yes Wells was going down as soon as someone hit him below the knees.

Meanwhile it was just unreal watching Warner, Boldin and Fitzgerald carve up the Vikings defense.

The rest of the time the team looked about like they do this year.

Considering I'm far from anti Beanie you are dead wrong. Beanie last year could have had a few long TD's but would get tripped up or slip before hitting the home run. Its one of his biggest flaws and has been since day 1.

I have mentioned it long before Duck started this thread.

Seems like he has problems getting to the 2nd level where he could do more in space. He sure seems to get tangleated* at the line of scrimmage

I agree he is 6"2 and gets ankle tackled TONS. He is has some elite traits but has to work om his weaknesses.

Problem with Beanie?

Cecil left him stranded on Nobikini Atoll.

Well, that probably flew over the heads of just about everybody here but nice one, 40!! :)

I know more than one Boomer Cardinal fan who would love to wear propeller caps to the games.

No you're right. Remember Whiz complained about him getting tripped up near the goalline earlier in the year said he should have scored. On that 4th down play he was tripped up or he would have scored.

I don't quite know what he is because the guy is a load, but he seems to have that achilles heel literally, if you get his lower leg he trips up.

The problem with Beanie is the offensive line.

It's their fault he is getting tackled one on one by 180 lb Cornerbacks ?

:mulli:

The only problem I see with Beanie is his fat head, and big mouth. He should shut his trap until he produces.

Right now ? He is the single biggest dissapointment on this team, IMO.

If you don't see the problem with the OL's run blocking, you are a fumunder engineer.
