Not only for his FG to put us in OT, but his FG to win it. Game winner.

Yeah, the pressure is off because the season is over, but I've bashed him for missing.

It is only right that I praise him for making his kicks to win the game and even get us there (the fact that he was needed to win against this team is another topic entirely.)

Thanks Neil!!

Here are some numbers to compare... the kicking scenary doesn't look too pretty.

Rackers from 20-29 = 4/4, 100%
Worse kicking:
Lions (4/5, 80%)
Saints (4/5, 80%)
Titans (10/12, 83%)
Texans (6/7, 86%)
Rams (7/8, 88%)
Giants (9/10, 90%)
Falcons (9/10, 90%)
Cowboys (10/11, 91%)
Bucs (10/11, 91%)
Bengals (11/12, 92%)
Colts (14/15, 93%)

Rackers from 30-39 = 5/7, 71% - 3rd worst in the league
Worse kicking:
Giants (5/8, 63%)
Chiefs (9/13, 69%)

Rackers from 40-49 = 5/6, 83% - 13th best in the league
Worse kicking (Ugh... not pretty picture):
Colts (0/2, 0%)
Eagles (1/6, 17%)
Patriots (2/4, 50%)
Falcons (5/10, 50%)
Jags (4/7, 57%)
Rams (7/12, 58%)
Chiefs (5/8, 63%)
Packers (9/14, 64%)
Seahawks (8/12, 67%)
Ravens (8/12, 67%)
Panthers (6/9, 67%)
Bills (4/6, 67%)
Raiders (7/9, 78%)
Texans (7/10, 70%)
Jets (5/7, 71%)
Broncos (8/11, 72%)
Dolphins (6/8, 75%)
Redskins (9/12, 75%)
Saints (3/4, 75%)

Rackers from 50+ = 3/9, 33% - 12th worst, however, we took the most attempts 9 from that distance.
Worse kicking:
Bucs (0/3, 0%)
Bears (0/2, 0%)
Falcons (0/2, 0%)
Colts (0/1, 0%)
Bengals (0/1, 0%)
Steelers (0/1, 0%)
Ravens (0/1, 0%)
Chiefs (0/1, 0%)
Jets (1/4, 25%)
Eagles (1/4, 25%)
Vikings (1/4, 25%)

One thing is clear, we should think twice before driving Rackers out of town.

Nice post. Good perspective... IMO, Rackers should be brought back and fully supported. I like the guy and I don't believe he is not even close to being as bad as so many here make him out to be...

I think it is the timing of the misses. At least two of the losses were the direct result of his misses (clutch misses) which the numbers can't highlight. And that is the primary complain of the fans. Otherwise, he is better than several in the league.

nice post. Rackers missed 3 kicks all year from less than 50 yards. He missed 6 kicks from greater than 50 yards. If previous years we were spoiled and expected Rackers too make every kick. Minor point Janikowski has 10 attempts and made 5.

OuchieClown and CheeseBeef

If you can find a better kicker than Rackers to sign with us that would be great. I am not sure which kickers are free agents but I don't think signing a new kicker should be a priority for the team. There are a lot of kickers whose than Rackers.

Seattle's Josh Brown is a FA. He is better than Rackers from 30-39 (5/5, 100%) but worse from 40-49 (8/12, 67%), and same from 50+ (1/3, 33%), not sure what his % would be if he attempts 9 FG from 50+.

He is however a career 80% compared to Rackers 75%.

Again, the knock on Rackers is that he is not clutch.

Free agent kickers

Rob Bironas, RFA, Tennessee Titans
Over the course of the past two seasons with the Titans, Bironas has kicked five game-winning field goals, which accounts for nearly half of the team’s twelve wins over that span. He has a strong leg and has converted a 60-yard field goal for a win— the longest field goal in franchise history. Bironas will be a RFA, reducing the likelihood that he leaves the Titans at cost to another team. There are definitely some teams that wouldn’t mind acquiring the 29-year old.

Josh Brown UFA Seattle Seahawks
Brown was in the same position last season, and the Seahawks signed him for another season because of how reliable he has tended to be. So far this season is no different. He’s been successful on 20 of 23 field goal attempts, and his three misses have all been from a distance of more than 40 yards. He has also converted all 23 of his extra point attempts. The safest bet is that Seattle will sign him to another contract at season’s end. Other Free Agent Kickers
Dave Rayner UFA Green Bay Packers
Lawrence Tynes UFA New York Giants

I believe Seattle will resign Brown and we will keep Rackers as Whiz has given him a vote of confidence.

rackers is going to be our kicker next year, id be shocked if he's let go. thats not saying im thrilled, but there's my prediction. that being said....WOW. i still can't belive he slid. maybe that's why he's been missing, seriously, he was thinking about how he was going to slide after making it.

I don't think there is any way Whiz brings back Rackers next year. The coaching staff and players would never come out and publicly reprimand Rackers but the whole team knows if he came through in the clutch that they'd be getting ready for the playoffs. I think the team gave him a pass on the long miss at Washington but he sealed his walking papers when he missed the chippy game winner in the SF game. The entire team team looks at that game as their missed oppurtunity. Plus, if you read between the lines, Whiz always mentions the Cards are a play or two away from having 9-10 wins right now. Who/what do you think he is talking about. It's Rackers.
