Still don't understand how he warranted a contract extension with his drafting woes and not having 1 QB on the roster...that's just gross incompetence.
This whole, "Not having 1 QB on the roster" thing is WAY overblown. [Don't mean to pick on you, AsUpRoDiGy - i've seen this stated often.]
The fact that they don't have backup QBs is no big deal - backups are a dime a dozen and with a new coaching staff, they'd need to learn a new system regardless. Stanton and Gabbert were awful and easily replaced - or easily re-signed (ulch).
What happened is that their starting QB retired (somewhat predictably), so they need a new starting QB. That happens to lots of teams all the time. What Keim can rightfully be faulted for is not having a potential QBOF already on the roster. Yep, that's bad, though obviously a new "QBOF" or legitimate starter can be had in free agency, which *might* be just as good as if they had drafted someone in the past couple of years and groomed him under the old coaching staff.
But wailing about the team having "not a single QB under contract" is overstating the problem. If they still had Stanton, Gabbert, and Barkley under contract, the situation would not be the least bit improved.
