I wish everyone would quit with the sign-and-trade of other team's players BS.

You can only sign and trade your own free agents.

Also, you can't package a player to be signed-and-traded with other players. They have to be the only player traded.

I believe it was different because it was a three-way trade. Both the Pacers and Kings needed to clear cap room, the Kings to accept Miller's contract, and the Pacers' to sign him - the Pacers didn't have his Bird rights.

So in a sense it was actually three trades - the Pacers sent Ron Mercer to San Antonio for Danny Ferry, the Kings sent Turkoglu to San Antonio, and the Pacers sign-and-traded Miller for Pollard.

It was a crappy deal all around for Indy, but they saved a boatload of money in the process.
