Josh won 6 games being the QB.
Was he the reason we won 6 games? No.
However he didn't lose them either and no other QB on the roster can say they helped not lose even one game.
Josh dosen't read the field all that well. That isn't suprising it was his first year starting.
Most first year starters don't read the field very well. Toward the end he was better than in the beginning and next year he will be better still.
That's basically how experience works.
And this I agree with.
Yes some players may have more of an "innate" jump on others as far as "seeing" or "reading" the field. But for just about any young QB, no matter how great their natural skills may be, the pro game is so much faster than anything they've played before, it really does take most quite a few games in actual playing conditions before the game starts "slowing down" for them a little more.
How many? Its going to vary depending again on the player's skiill, his coaching, and the situation he is in. It's easy to sit back and read the field if you have time. That didn't start happening here this year until the very latter part of the season. For the majority of it, the opponents defense was swarming into the Cards backfield with almost open season on the QB.
I keep seeing the Josh bashers talking about his lack of pocket presence.
I don't think its anything so much less than "normal", whatever that is.
What IS tough, is when you have OL that at any moment may blow their assignment, and the defense gets pressure looping from the back or blind side.
If any QB knows they could get cremated from behind on any given play, that naturally tends to make them a little "skittish". Its only human.
Again, I haven't seen the blatent lack of pocket presence from Josh. Yes he still needs to develop more of a "feel" for the flow of the defensive pressure and how his OL are reacting, but again, that normally improves with the players playing together as a unit, and ALL of them OL, QB, and RB blockers developing that "awareness" of one another.....not JUST the QB.
I don't know about anyone else, but I hardly doubt that's the text book way you develop positive experience in that regard.
Did Josh miss "seeing" some open receivers?
Of course. But all QB's do.
Once again, I see the tendancy that a limited number of bad plays become a rush-to-judgement, and I would say, inaccurate and biased opinion especially if someone is busting their butt to find things to criticize anyway.
