McCown can't say that either. He helped with some of the losses.

Wrong. He damn sure was the main reason, and one of the only reasons, we lost the Atlanta game. He was abysmal in that game and was rightly yanked. Those fumbles and his problem in the pocket in that game cost us dearly...cost us the win.

Williams also fumbled on the 3 yard line in the last few minutes of that game IIRC. Without that fumble we could have easily won that game too. Josh wasn't the "main" reason we lost the Atlnata game either.

Ah yes. That drive was Shaun King's finest moment as a Cardinal.

Josh won 6 games being the QB.

Josh dosen't read the field all that well. That isn't suprising it was his first year starting.

Most first year starters don't read the field very well. Toward the end he was better than in the beginning and next year he will be better still.

That's basically how experience works.

And this I agree with.

Yes some players may have more of an "innate" jump on others as far as "seeing" or "reading" the field. But for just about any young QB, no matter how great their natural skills may be, the pro game is so much faster than anything they've played before, it really does take most quite a few games in actual playing conditions before the game starts "slowing down" for them a little more.

How many? Its going to vary depending again on the player's skiill, his coaching, and the situation he is in. It's easy to sit back and read the field if you have time. That didn't start happening here this year until the very latter part of the season. For the majority of it, the opponents defense was swarming into the Cards backfield with almost open season on the QB.

I keep seeing the Josh bashers talking about his lack of pocket presence.
I don't think its anything so much less than "normal", whatever that is.
What IS tough, is when you have OL that at any moment may blow their assignment, and the defense gets pressure looping from the back or blind side.
If any QB knows they could get cremated from behind on any given play, that naturally tends to make them a little "skittish". Its only human.

Again, I haven't seen the blatent lack of pocket presence from Josh. Yes he still needs to develop more of a "feel" for the flow of the defensive pressure and how his OL are reacting, but again, that normally improves with the players playing together as a unit, and ALL of them OL, QB, and RB blockers developing that "awareness" of one another.....not JUST the QB.

I don't know about anyone else, but I hardly doubt that's the text book way you develop positive experience in that regard.

Did Josh miss "seeing" some open receivers?
Of course. But all QB's do.
Once again, I see the tendancy that a limited number of bad plays become a rush-to-judgement, and I would say, inaccurate and biased opinion especially if someone is busting their butt to find things to criticize anyway.

Two questions:

1. What would you be willing to give up in a trade for Billy Volek?

2. If you aren't going to use #8 on a rookie (given Alex Smith and Rodgers will both likely be gone) would you consider bringing in someone like Tim Hasselbeck to compete with McCown? From what I have seen of the Redskins, Hasselbeck may be a better QB than both Ramsey and Brunell and is probably in the same boat as guys like Delhomme and Bulger were a couple of years ago (i.e. not getting much playing time behind QBs that had significant $$ invested in them).

No way the Titans let go of Volek, I don't care what the offer. McNair is talking about retiring because he can't take the beating anymore.

Mc9 won't be retiring. A number of us on the Titans board are pushing for us to draft a QB with our #6 pick (if Smith or Rodgers is still on the board). Billy's trade value is at its highest level right now, and whilst he has put up good (actually great) numbers in a few games late this season (particularly against KC and Oakland - hardly defensive powerhouses), there's no guarantee he'll be able to repeat those performances over the long term. He has also suffered serious injuries this year and last year so he hasn't proven he will be any more durable than McNair.

It's been 10 years since the Titans had a top-10 pick and we used that on McNair. Our chance to pick up a 10-year starter at QB may be through the draft and if they are mentored behind McNair it may be our best chance to guarantee long term success.
