Hmm. That is kinda weird, but, like you said, to each their own.

I'm not so sure how I feel about this. I keep thinking how I would feel if I were rooming with someone whose culture found it acceptable to eat cat or dog for dinner. I don't think I could just sit back and accept that someone in the same house was about to eat (and perhaps kill) something that looks a lot like an animal that I've grown to love. I find it kind of weird that people might feel the same way about pigs but I've certainly met some that raised and loved them as pets.

I meant that it's kinda weird that she will wear animals, but not eat them. Just wondering what the motivating factor is. Does she just not like meat? Does she like wearing leather because cows aren't cute? I don't know of any vegetarians that wear leather or fur. But, again, to each their own.

I fell for the old "two paragraphs and you were only talking about one of them" gag, second time this week. Anyway, I see what you mean although I've actually known a few vegetarians that simply chose that way because of things they'd learned about the food industry but had yet to extend those concerns to the world of fashion. Obviously, Vegans are easy to peg on these kind of issues but there's a very wide range amongst Vegetarians.

Yeah, I should have probably just quoted that one paragraph. Sorry about that.

True there is a wide range of vegetarians.

She just thinks it's WRONG to eat meat, of any kind--I believe she's vegan, even, but for whatever reason, wearing it is not an issue. Only consumption is wrong.

She's frickin' weird, aside from all that, anyway.

Maybe so, but if they were paying an equal portion of the rent/mortgage, would you feel you had the right to say something about it?

As a side note, she has never owned a pig, she just has a fondness for them.

No, I was just going off on a tangent about animals in general. If I felt strongly enough about something like this, the last thing I'd do is put myself in that situation. I've never understood people who expect others to change to meet their wants and needs.

Well, if other people eating meat bothered me that much, then I probably wouldn't live with them. (Kinda like I never roomed with smokers when I was younger.)

But, eh.

The only thing I've never gotten about vegans or vegetarians is that meat is delicious. Life is short, why deprive yourself?

Simply put, I don't believe that animals should suffer. I have plenty of other things I can eat.

I feel the same. It just isn't for me. Ever since I was five years old and found out where my Happy Meal hamburger came from, I have had a problem with eating meat. Yeah, I find some of it tasty, but I also love mozzarella sticks and I'm trying not to eat those either, lol.

Two parts plastic, two parts soy, one part meat substitute, one part undetermined???

Somewhat off topic... I used to love both chicken and turkey. When I quit smoking some years back I completely lost my taste for it. I can't even stand the smell of it now. What's weird is the same thing happened to my wife. It seems like it's heading that way will beef too. I still like a good steak but I eat less and less meat as time goes by. The meat they have at places like Whole Foods has all the fat bred out of it and to me it smells funny and tastes like shoe leather. Don't have a problem yet with pork.

It's sometimes awkward when we get invited over to someone's house for dinner and I have to ask if they're having chicken... seems ungrateful but I guess it's better than showing up and then not eating what's served.

So you're saying you quit cold turkey?

Without violence there is no life. Violence is a natural thing.

Animals suffer, people who are animals suffer, and suffering is a natural part of life as well.

Civilized society helps people escape those things for the majority of their lives, and domesticated animals, like my house cat, probably hasn't suffered more than being hungry past 9pm.

If the reasoning behind not eating something is to prevent them from suffering, being killed, or being harmed, in my very respectful opinion, is a waste of time.

I respect vegetarians. It is there right, and thier choice to do as they please.

If you throw it in my face though, you are going to get an earfull right back at you about what I honestly think about the situation.

Note: Not a single person threw anything in my face, and this was a very nice thread to read. Good stuff, and to each his own. Just wanted to throw the fact out there that violence and suffering are natural aspects of life.

So you wouldn't have a problem if I came over to your house, clubbed your cat and cooked it for dinner tonight? This is a serious question, not just being goofy here.

I thought it deserved at least a 4.25

My sensitive feelings are now badly hurt because you would rate a joke that came at my expense at 4.25

Yeah, but Mryeahbut, at least you can take pride in knowing that your bizarre Turkey phobia has allowed Linderbee to bask in the spotlight of praise.
