So you wouldn't have a problem if I came over to your house, clubbed your cat and cooked it for dinner tonight? This is a serious question, not just being goofy here.

Of course I would, but if you look at the post above yours, I did say that civilized society protects us from the natural voilence of this world (that includes our Mini-kings of our households, aka our pets). Our societies enable a way for us to live (at least it is supposed to I guess) without the need for baseline voilence and harsh compeition. So, while it is more peaceful, and more civilized it is not natural.

Thus clubbing my poor kitty cat would make me murderously upset, but if you got some cats out of the wild and caged them up so you could eat them, so be it.

They do it in some countries, I am sure. I know some Asian/Thai country that breed dogs to eat their puppies.

If you and I were not in civilized society, living in a cave, we would club the crap out of anything we could catch to eat. Voilence, natural voilence for the sake of the natural order of things.

Go ahead. Be a vegetarian. Our society and civilized living allows for that lifestyle. But, don't tell me it is not natural to kill something and eat it because it is just not true.

Earlier you stated that caring about violence against animals was a "waste of time", which clearly is an innacurate statement for you in relation to your cat. Sure, things die. Animals eat each other. Humans eat all kinds of wacky things, but we humans have the ability to control our behavior and to make the world a more humane place. To just dismiss human on animal violence as "natural" is rather defeatest IMHO.

I am not a vegetarian, but I respect vegetarians for having the vision to take that feeling of protection and love that you talk about with your cat, and extrapolate it to all animals.

Fair enough.

But my love for my cat is unnatural, and is only afforded to me via the society I live in.

Maybe I should have said to worry about ALL violence on ALL animals is a waste of time. It is unnatural, and impossible to do. They can fight that losing battle if they want, heck I watch our government try to do the same thing with the war on drugs.

Just not practical, IMO. Plus we are both taking a broad brush stroke to vegetarians/animal rights people. They range from pratical to downright crazy.

I would just hope people would treat this part of their life like religion. It is fine if that is someones belief, I just don't need to hear about it.

I don't think a reasonable person would tell you that, but I do think reasonable people can believe that just because something is possible doesn't mean it is right. To me, it is just as natural to live and let live (and go eat my sprouts). ;)

Now, if you want to get into factory farming, that's when the 'natural' debate will really flare up.

Cute. Well, if it gets me out of eating Brussels Sprouts, I'm all for it. So, no meat of any kind, no veggies and no grains. I sure hope my words are nutritious since I've nothing else left to eat. Although, something else did just come to mind.
