apparently so. he keeps on getting a job. the raiders want him then they can have him. i think the raiders need to hire a head coach first. oh well that is their problem.

He was the OC the year they lost in the Superbowl and they got there on offense.

I think he'd be a horrible head coach, from what I understand he has a hard time communicating with football people because he's more of an intellectual and he kind of comes off as talking down to people. Thus the problems he had with jake Plummer.

My guess is they'll hire Rob Ryan and Trestman might be the OC.

Actually he's had nothing but success. His head coaces just keep getting canned.

A year later, the Browns promoted Trestman to offensive coordinator, and Kosar and wide receiver Webster Slaughter led Cleveland to the AFC championship game. Kosar passed for 3,533 yards and 18 TDs, and Slaughter set a franchise record with 1,236 receiving yards.

In Trestman's first year with the defending Super Bowl champions, the 49ers led the NFL with 457 points scored, 644 pass attempts and 4,779 passing yards. They also ranked second with 391.1 total yards per game. Jerry Rice set an NFL record that still stands with 1,848 yards receiving on 122 catches, and scored 15 touchdowns. Recently inducted Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young made the Pro Bowl after throwing for 3,200 yards and 20 TDs.

Bobby Ross hired Trestman to be the Detroit Lions' quarterbacks coach for 1997, and the Lions, not surprisingly, had one of the most dynamic offenses in the league. With Scott Mitchell at quarterback, the '97 Lions passed for 3,484 yards, second most in team history.

Trestman was on the move again, to the Arizona Cardinals as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. The Cardinals, who averaged five wins and 242 points a year the previous decade, won nine games and scored 325 points in 1998. Quarterback Jake Plummer passed for 3,737 yards, and the Cardinals made the playoffs for the first time since 1982 and won their first postseason game in 51 years.

In 2002 he ascended to offensive coordinator, and the Raiders terrorized defenses throughout the league. The 2002 Oakland Raiders led the NFL in total offense with 389.8 yards per game and passing yards with 279.7 per game. They completed 418 of 618 pass attempts for 67.6 percent. Quarterback Rich Gannon had 10 games of 300 or more yards passing, and at one point completed 21 consecutive passes in a game.

Trestman took way too much heat when he was here.

But, I'm glad we're not interviewing him for head coach.

Russ:

That might be one of the better ideas Al Davis had had recently, if he's looking for someone to develop Brady Quinn. Trestman's had a pretty good track record as an OC and QB guru (at least, for quarterbacks who can grasp schemes more complex than "go make a play, willya?")

A Rex Ryan (HC), Mark Trestman (OC) combo MIGHT not be too bad truthfully.

Hey, considering who they had there last year as an offensive coordinator, it'd be an upgrade.

I think Trestman would be similar to hiring Norm Chow. They are both intellectual offensive minds with so-called communication problems. Neither has been a HC before and both are well-tarveled assisstants. I don't like either as a HC type.

I know Trestman has not had much success since he left the Cards. Who was he with last year. He would be an upgrade over what the Raiders had last year.

I hate the Raiders so am enjoying their stuggles. To me they are old no QB to grow around and not much talent on offense. Lots of luck whoever they get to take that job. Al may have to come back and coach.

Reading the blurbs about Trestman's career(thanks Red Air Force) he may be a pretty good choice for the Raiders. I don't really know anything about him or what he's all about but the couple of times I watched the Raiders this year, their defense wasn't really their problem. Ryan might actually have a decent unit for them to rely on.

I've mentioned that I think Martz might be a good fit in Arizona in '07, but I've got this feeling that he'll be the guy in Oakland when all is said and done. He's a maverick, Big Al loves offense and scoring points and Martz, as mucch as some people don't like him, has a way of getting the most out of his qb's. Right now, that's what Oakland really needs is to settle on and develop a qb. Yes, their o-line needs a lot of work too but the qb carousel will keep the team in dissaray just as much or more than anything else on offense.

On top of that, hiring Martz would give the Raiders quite a bit of publicity. Moss and Martz on the same team would be a car wreck that would be hard not to watch. Davis tried the respectable, honorable, sentimental choice in rehiring Shell but that team needs a spark. The excitement that would come from Martz being there just might get Randy motivated(remember, Isaac Bruce wasn't particularly happy or productive for the Rams in '97 & '98) and get the rest of the team playing with some confidence. Of course, it could all blow up too.
