I think we had to roll the dice on this deal...especially since Marion was out the door one way or another. The Shaq factor makes me excited again on the Suns because frankly I've been bored this year with the team even though they have a good record.

The first thing that comes to mind is how naysayers are telling us that Shaq is too old and wont fit in with the Suns system...Isn't that what they said about Kurt Thomas?? Well we know how that worked out. Kurt brought us strengths that the Suns were lacking..rebounding and defense. When Kurt was in the lineup the Suns were better. Shaq on his worst day is better than KT so he can only be a big plus for us.

I never liked Amare playing center even though he's done a good job at it for the most part. Everyone and their mother knew that wasnt his natural position. Maybe now he wont be in foul trouble as much and can concentrate more on his offense which is his natural strength anyway. We might get even more scoring production out of him with him not riding the pine as much.

Speaking of natural positions...our whole team just got bigger. Adding Shaq gives us a ripple effect all the way down the line. Now we have a taller center..a taller powerforward...etc etc. Now we arnt such midgets anymore...its more normal now.

OK...this is the last last LAST final chance for Diaw. The theory has always been he plays better as a starter and needs time to get his groove on. Well Doris...I mean Boris...put up or shutup once and for all. I think we might see an improvement out of his game.

I'd rather have Shaq than Marion at this point. At least Shaq wants to be here and there is is a certain magic surrounding Shaq. He brings excitement that Marion never had. I'll always appreciate Shawn but Shaq is Shaq....its almost as good as bringing KG here....we'll see. Besides, if we get knocked out of the playoffs again I'd rather it be with Shaq than with Marion for the billionth time.

It will be fun watching Shaq matchup with Duncan, Ming, KG and all the other players we could never matchup with. I cant wait for wide eyed Timmy to take on the Suns again WITH Shaq in the lineup. His 17 rebound games against the Suns might just be coming to an end. No more softie Suns in the middle. It will be like watching a new team out there!

If for some reason it doesnt work out....WHO CARES. We wern't going to win a title with Marion anyway so its all goooood.

Boris made mistakes but......

Played with passion against New Orleans. I want him driving the basket like that when it is there.

AJ, hehe, it's me.

Be patient to see what Shaq does in Phoenix, it is not yet time to be exciting.

It should be interesting to see how shaq does when he has a real PG to get him the ball. I suspect things will get easier the way opposing teams trap Nash when he penetrates. With shaq nearby, not being pushed away from the rim(who will do that?), the "trap Nash" strategy will be very dangerous. Get shaq the ball in deep and he doesnt miss much, and I doubt anyone can do that better than nash. I also think the "beat up the suns" strategy just became more complicated. The lane will now be a physical place and free amare, hill to be even more active in shot blocking. The icing on the cake is that straw(and maybe tucker) will now develop faster.

What is going on, there are all these new posters on this board who seem to know each other. From where did you come?

probably taking it personal the trade shaq posts you made back in the other forums (i was actually contented that he lands in dallas or bulls, but suns? heck that's even better, the land of shooters...)

I have probably brought about 100 "underatted" points to this trade up but heres one more.

I am fully convinced that if his body doesn't betray him he will be sufficently motivated this year and next. It was 2009/10 that worried me that we would be saddled with him....

But you know what? What is the favorite asset of everyone in the NBA? The expiring contract. You think at that point if we had to we could a) make a trade or sign and trade for some stud player b) wait it out through 2010 and then let it fall off our own books.

I guess I am done defending this universally panned trade. Here is how i look at it. The last time we were killed for putting too much money into an aging star it turned up two WCF's and two MVP's. Kinda similar with Charles as well.

Hopefully Shaq is more like Nash and The Round mound then say...Penny Hardaway.

Just try to redirect some fire:

Ben Wallace, 33 years old, turning 34 in Sep. 2 and half years younger than Shaq. Meanwhile, he makes 15M a year, not far shy from Shaq's 20M.

Played all 47 games this season, averaging 32.4 minutes.

As a famous defensive player, he produces 8.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.4 steals. His rebound per 48 minutes is just 12.9, less than Shaq's 13.1, while Shaq was marked as "unable to rebound"?! Shaq also has more blocks, 1.7, in less playing time!

Ben's offense? 4.9 points by 38.1 FG%, 38.1% for a center?!? (must be a type error, suggest NBA.com staff check it) ... Have u ever seen any team double Ben?

Shaq would not be under so much unfair criticism if he was not Shaq!
