Oh man, now I'm really super envious. Grats to you and your family, that would be a lifelong dream for me and mine.

Thank you. We worked hard to get here but also recognize the blessings we have had along the way...

it helps that Mississippi real estate is very affordable. I have a buddy who just bought a place in the east valley....he paid 30k more for his cookie cutter home on a little subdivision lot than we paid for this place. The house was built in 1960 and has been fully remodeled. new roof, wiring, plumbing, and central unit... only 1500 sf,..but the girl will be going off to college in a few years anyway so the ol'lady and I can deal with the smaller space.

really hoping 2016 brings us a new barn so I can keep my horses out of the rough weather.

That's awesome, especially that you found a place already remodeled. New wiring and plumbing gets expensive as hell, especially on secluded land. My brother lives up north here in AZ and had some wiring issues and had to pay a fortune (by my standards) to get it up to code, and that didn't even fix the issue he had, that was just to rewire the entire house to start working on the problem. Getting dudes out to the middle of nowhere was half the battle. It's a consistent problem.

Grats again for realizing the fruits of your efforts. It's not as simple as people think. Wish I could do some fishing out there, but wife and I haven't been to Mississippi in probably a decade. When we were back east about 10 years ago, we were amazed at the # of people who would let us fish on their land if we just asked, that's no joke. (I'm talking about going to their front door and asking, not simply pond hopping on someone's ****). Long as we didn't take too many, were respectful coming and going, they were so cool about it. And fishing alone with no one else around and natural scenery (no hotels or boats etc), totally priceless.

Enjoy!!!

I love Dems, she's the best! I hope they get your arthritis under control. It's only a matter of time for me, the RA is strong in my family. :(. Grandma, mom, dad, sister. Pain is a family tradition. So I feel for ya, hang in there. But you're a tough broad! :)

This year for me, has been tough. I hesitate to talk about this here but maybe it will help someone else who is struggling. I have been fighting depression for a long time, really my whole life but it has gotten worse since I got divorced and this year my grandmother passed, which was hard. This summer it finally reached a point where I had to do something, I was talking to a friend and she asked me the standard how are you doing? And man, I just lost it lol, it was embarrassing but I was lucky to have a friend who helped me through it. she convinced me to get some help, so I did and while it is helping, therapy is really hard. Depression is a real MFer as Dems would say :)

Aw, thanks Bert. You know it's mutual. :)

Normally, I don't put my stuff out there... but I'd had a New Year's glass (or three) of champagne and thought what the heck.... we're family here.

Losing it was probably the best thing you could have done. You have to get that stuff out. I'm very glad you had someone who was there for you.

The last few months have been better, I have started golfing again and I've lost almost 50lbs. So while it has been a tough year hopefully things are trending upwards. My daughters are healthy and happy and that's really the most important thing to me.

It sounds ridiculous but the Cardinals have been a big lift. Not overstating the importance of sports but like many of you, the Cards are a little more than a football team to me. It's part of my family and part of who I am. When this team does well it always puts a smile on my face, even if it's just for an afternoon.

Sorry for the long post! I have enjoyed reading the posts here and I love our little ASFN family here. I wish you all the best year ever. GO CARDINALS!!!

Hey Bert... As I mentioned in my post in this thread, my wife battles bi-polar depression. Was diagnosed back in 2006 at the age of 42. I have had a front-row, up-close and personal seat ever since. My wife never, ever showed any signs of this illness prior to her massive psychotic breakdown back in '06. It was truly the scariest, saddest thing I have ever witnessed... until she had her second psychotic event in 2012. The 2nd event was worse than the first. And it happened because, unknown to me, she had stopped taking her meds because she thought she was "ok"... WRONG!
My wife and I have learned a ton over the years...and thankfully, she has learned to accept the fact that she had an illness that will remain with her forever. As such, she knows she needs to take her meds - always...
Therapy definitely helped her through the post-psychotic phases. And now, her faith and her meds seems to be enough to keep her in a "good place."
Just want you to know that I can relate and understand your situation... if you ever want to vent, purge or simply chew on an ear, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my contact info...
God bless ya brother.

If I don't take my meds every day I gotta be talked off the ledge on a regular basis.... If I'm not in the basement hiding from the world, that is. Took years for doctor to get them balanced correctly, but I'm finally doing pretty well.

Oaken, there has to be gators around there somewhere.... That would scare the heck out of me..:hairraise
