I am now hearing it could be Pearl.

:barf:

If true, I'd feel sorry for UofA fans. UT has been one of the most underachieving ugly undisciplined playing basketball programs of recent history.

The guy's got a weakness for co-eds as well.

He recruits like a madman though and he wins at a football school in a region with several national powers.

That being said, the guy is a complete sleazebag.

I personally don't believe it's Pearl. I can't see Livengood hiring someone with that past. I believe it's all specualtion but the guy who told me said that is the name that has been going around. I doubt Pearl will be the guy.

So latest rumor is that Few turned down UofA per ESPN. Anyone here know this to be true or false?

It could be. What I don't get is Livengood told the team yesterday, so if an agreement was made, I wonder if it was Capel the entire time. Either way, if they don't hire Capel, I will not be happy. Gambo & Ash think he is the best guy besides Pitino for the job.

Livengood might as well resign if he can't get Capel.

Im not so sure Few turned down the job. I think its more so Few was on the list and if Arizona gets Capel he was higher than Few.

I think those around Few would leak that due to the possibility of Oregon opening up.

Few, Pitino and Capel may all consider UA a step down in job although Few would make more money in Tucson than where he is now. If you don't get any of them, laying all this on Livengood is excuse making.

I hope you do get Capel but I'd be shocked. Frankly, Capel doesn't impress me. He recruits well and that's half the battle. If you settle for a well chosen up-and-comer, you may be rewarded in the long run. Coach K wasn't high on anybody's list when Duke hired him.

A 34 year old guy who in his short career has already...

- sourced, recruited, landed, and developed 3 first round draft picks including the #1 overall pick in this year's draft
- landed four McD's AA's in first three classes at a football school mired in recruiting violations
- built two programs from the ground up
- gone to an Elite Eight

That doesn't impress you?

If that's the case you must have been in suicide mode when ASU hired Herb Sendek and Notre Dame hired Mike Brey. I don't know if Capel's the guy Arizona will end up with as Oklahoma's AD is very savvy but he's definitely on the same level if not better than Mark Few who seemingly lacks any ambition. Granted Capel is behind the four top guys but since they're out of the picture this is the best route for Arizona to go.

Now Livengood just needs to close so I don't have to deal with Bruce Pearl or Lon Kruger.

Capel > Few in my opinion. Capel is a great recruiter, just look at his upcoming class. I also think he relates very well to the players due to his age. Like I said, if they can't get Capel or Few, I won't be happy.

If we get Few and someone who can recruit for Arizona...

Few is a good coach, but at Arizona you NEED to recruit because of the location and name on the jersey. If we sign a coach who isnt into recruiting, like Few, our upside is no where near where it could be.

BTW not only is Capel a good coach, but Tommy Mason-Griffin and Tiny Gallon were Arizona recruits. In fact Gallon would be a strong possibility of following Capel to Arizona assuming everything works out.

I like Jeff Capel and hope OU can keep him for the sake of the Big 12, but if UofA gets him it's a good hire. The guy brings in talent.

Now that I'm seeing where these reports came from it appears obvious that Scott Bordow is either trying to torpedo Arizona's chances at Capel or trying to make Arizona look worse if they land somebody else because I really doubt an ASU grad based in Phoenix scooped this hire. Either way, he'll be asking "Would you like fries with that?" with all of his other EVT colleagues by the end of the year.

Whoa. Scratch my dumb opinion on Capel. Didn't know he was 34. Went back and took a better look. Stealing him > than getting Few. I'm on board.

And Mao, your taking shots at ASU and Notre Dame hoops programs miss their mark. Both places couldn't even begin to be as attractive as UA to most good young coaches. That's regrettable but it's fact.

Back to UA. Getting Capel would rank as a major coup.

Bordow is a good writer with lots of contacts and no anti-UA bias that I'm aware of. He just scooped a bunch of other people.

Why the negativity? Capel is a wonderful hire if you can reel him in.

Wow, really Skkorp? Bordow has hated Lute for years--he's been anti-UA hoops for a long time.

Bordow is an ASU grad, but he hides behind bashing ASU so people think he's balanced.

I am on board for Capel. He seems like a perfect fit: young, good recruiter, mentored by the legendary Coach K. Not as flashy as a Calipari or Pitino but definately a solid hire. Once the Duke position opens up he may be a goner if Johnny Dawkins doesn't get it.

Looks like it could very well be Floyd. The other board is saying Tim has flown in for an interview.
